School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London - IFCELS (International Foundation Programmes and English Language Studies)
Start date 1/10/12
Vacancy No: 000399
Salary: £32,256 to £38,072 pro rata per annum including London Allowance
IFCELS provides a range of long and short programmes for international students, especially those who are preparing to enter university in the UK both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
We are looking for a Subject Lecturer to give Economics lectures and tutorials on our ICC undergraduate foundation programme, starting at the beginning of the next academic year in October. The Economics course is already well-established but the post involves materials preparation, assessment and report writing.
The successful candidate will have a degree in Economics or a related area and experience of teaching an academic subject to international students, ideally at pre-undergraduate level. (S)he should have insights into the challenges they face and the teaching skills to develop their analytical and critical thinking through tutorial/seminar work.
You would need to be able to deal appropriately with students from a range of cultural and educational backgrounds and to be prepared to work closely with a fellow lecturer and supporting English teachers.
The teaching on the Economics course will be a job share for the 2012-3 academic year and in October 2013 we would envisage the postholder taking over all the teaching (usually equivalent to a fraction of 0.3-0.4 FTE)
Closing date: 2 July 2012
Interviews will be held on 23 July 2012
