The International Rice Research Institute Fund (IRRI Fund) is an international charitable organization registered in Singapore to raise funds from private and public donors in Singapore and around Asia to support the work of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) www.irri.org.
Founded in 1960 via the philanthropy of the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, IRRI is the oldest and largest international agricultural research institute in Asia with representative offices in 14 nations. It is now supported by many donors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. IRRI is known as the home of the Green Revolution in Asia, having played a key role in the region’s food security for more than four decades. It aims to
• reduce poverty and hunger,
• improve the health of rice farmers and consumers, and
• ensure that rice production is environmentally sustainable.
The Institute conducts research as well as educational and training programs to ensure enough rice for all Asians, with a special focus on using the latest science to help poor rice farmers improve their lives while protecting the environment. It is also home to the world’s largest and most important collection of rice varieties, totaling more than 110,000. The collection is widely recognized as the last line of defense between Asia and possible famine.
The IRRI Fund also seeks to develop and coordinate new scientific partnerships between IRRI and locally based research institutions, further building on Singapore’s status as a regional hub for science and technology.
Job purpose
Supporting the Executive Director, the Partnership Development Manager will join a dynamic team based in Singapore and will be key to developing philanthropic opportunities in Asia, with a particular focus on Singapore and Southeast Asia.
The position will also lead and manage partnership research efforts, especially in identifying new fund-raising opportunities and creation of donor feasibility studies. Effective marketing of the IRRI brand will be ‘key,’ through the development of PR concepts and media management, in collaboration with the IRRI PR team.
This role will be heavily relied upon to manage existing fund-raising activities as well as the development of new plans and strategies. The sustaining and retention of existing partners will be just as important as identifying and developing new donors, achieved through meaningful donor recognition programs and effective relationship management.
The Partnership Development Manager will also ensure the efficient functioning and smooth flow of daily operations and activities between the IRRI Fund and the Development Office in Philippines.
Requirements
The successful applicant will not only possess the necessary traits and competencies we are looking for but will also demonstrate a capacity to grow within the role.
It is likely that the successful individual will show they have both the analytical and critical thinking required to drive successful research. An existing knowledge from within the fund-raising, marketing, or PR fields would no doubt support this, as would an appreciation of local and regional communities.
In addition to possessing a strong understanding of marketing concepts, the individual will possess the ability to communicate, relate, and build rapport with senior stakeholders and partners as well as high-level officials, high-net-worth individuals, and other VIPs.
A superior ability to multi-task and prioritize will be essential as will the need for diligence in maintaining records and databases. As such, the individual would be expected to have already gained the skills to operate and manipulate databases such as SalesForce.
The position will be based in Singapore with a competitive compensation and benefit package. IRRI provides a multicultural work environment that reflects the values of gender equality, teamwork, and respect for diversity. Women are encouraged to apply. Interested candidates should submit their application to ricefund@irri.org. Screening will start on 04 December 2011 and will continue until a suitable candidate has been found. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
