VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: GOVERNANCE ASSISTANT
The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa's rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African states as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located at Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
The Department of Political Affairs of the African Union Commission is the Secretariat of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee (STC) no.8 on Public Service, Local Government, Urban Development and Decentralization. The following erstwhile three African Union ministerial conferences, the Conference of Ministers for Public/Civil Service (AU-CAMPS), the African Union Ministerial Conference on Decentralization and Local Development (AMCOD), and the African Ministerial Conference of Housing and Urban Development, (AMCHUD) were merged and named the AU-STC no. 8 on Public Service, Local Governance, Urban Development and Decentralization. At its First Ordinary Session held from 24-26 November 2014 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, the STC adopted a two year work plan (2015-2016). For the work plan to be effectively implemented, the Secretariat of the AU-STC is planning to recruit an Assistant Governance Officer to support the implementation of the work-plan.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Governance Assistant will provide technical support to the Department of Political Affairs (the Secretariat of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Public Service, Local Governance, Urban Development and Decentralization) He/She will carry AFRICAN UNION UNION AFRICAINE UNIàO AFRICANA P. Tenure of Appointment
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of One year's, of which the first three (3) month will be considered as a probationary period.

Remuneration
The salary attached to the position is a fixed monthly lump sum of US$ 4,179.03 (GSA 5 Step5) inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 1,779.53 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff.
