Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the identification of orthopedic-related needs in Nyarugusu refugee camp in Kasulu District in coordination with the CBR/PSN Manager. This position reports to CBR/PSN Manager and work closely with the CBR Officer / Rehabilitation Officer and this position is part of the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) team.
Duties and Responsibilities.
Program Responsibilities:
• Support the CBR /Manager to ensure quality implementation of CBR activities in Nyarugusu refugee camp, ensuring adherence to donor agreement and regulations, as well as IRC Tanzania’s country program strategic plan.
• Responsible for the identification of the Orthopedic related needs in the workshop and support the support of clients with simple Orthopaedic needs to be assisted according to the available local resources in coordination with the CBR/PSN Manager and the whole CBR team.
• Support the refugee rehabilitation assistants (Orthopedic) to meet project objectives by liaising with them, counseling, demonstrating, advising and facilitating.
• Share technical expertise with refugee rehabilitation assistants (Orthopedic) and assist them in planning and simple fabrication of local orthopedic appliances.
• Identify and implement ways to increase awareness of support to cases with Orthopaedic needs in the community and participate in organizing on job training/sessions to the community on the management of different types of disabilities through orthoppaedic procedures..
• Support orthopedic needs for the cases from the host communities as identified and approved by the CBR/PSN Manager depending on the available resources.
• Ensure that cases with orthopaedic needs are supported through a coordinated case management system with other sectors and create awareness on the needs that can be addressed through community mobilization..
• Working closely with the CBR Officer /Rehabilitation Officer and CBR team, to plan activities, and monitor their outcomes in ways which combine the needs of the refugees, agency/donor requirements, and available resources.
• Support CBR/PSN Manager in tracking indicators and analysis of data, the preparation of activity reports, monthly and donor reports, and proposals as required.
Personnel Management:
• Supervise incentive Rehabilitation assistants (Orthopedic).
• Carry out standard personnel management functions including performance management and support for professional development of the Rehabilitation assistants (Orthopaedic).
• Prepare staff duty roster for incentive Rehabilitation Assistants (Orthopaedic) in coordination with CBR/PSN Manager, CBR Officer/Rehabilitation Officer to meet program objectives.
• Responsible for welfare and discipline of rehabilitation Assistants (Orthopedic) in coordination with CBR /PSN Manager and Rehabilitation Officer.
General Responsibilities:
• Attend and participate in trainings identified organized by your supervisor.
• Follow any new procedures and guidelines designated in circulars from Country Director.
• Report any violations of the IRC Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Code of Conduct (Tanzania and worldwide) as per the IRC Tanzania reporting mechanism. The reporting of violations is an obligation on the part of all staff members.
• Assist where necessary in undertaking activities that aim to prevent the occurrence of sexual abuse and exploitation of refugees by IRC and other humanitarian workers.
• Represent IRC at interagency meetings as assigned.
• Assist in control and proper usage of stationery and other items relating to work.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements:
• Diploma in Orthopaedic Technology from a recognized Institution, relevant Qualification and experience required.
• Experience working in refugee camp setting desirable in the areas of disability, CBR programme or Disability centers or Hospital required.
• Good IT skills: knowledge of MS Word; Excel and Outlook required and ability to track and manage data required.
• Swahili and good English written and oral skills required. French a plus
