Job Title: BSS (IT) Operations Engineer

Objectives:
The job is responsible for installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software, databases and related infrastructure including technical research and development for innovation continuity within the infrastructure and also to ensures system hardware, operating systems, software, databases for Business Support Systems (BSS) are adhered to organizational procedures and values to staff and customers facilitation
Key Responsibilities:
1. Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, interfaces etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
2. Contribute to and maintain system standards.
3. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups and other automated jobs.
4. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
5. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
6. Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
7. Provide other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
8. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
9. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
10. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
11. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
12. Maintaining and update the installation, configuration and troubleshooting documentation.
13. Evaluate, test and apply updates and patches to assigned applications on a schedule basis.
14. Troubleshoot, resolve and document issues and changes related to assigned applications.
15. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders and users to address application issues, upgrades and changes.
16. Research, propose and implement systems enhancements that will improve the reliability, features and performance of the assigned systems and applications.
17. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
18. Learn new applications, technologies, and processes as they relate to the customer needs.
19. Become knowledgeable of the capabilities of all major applications, databases and operating systems, having a clear understanding of their capabilities and how they interact to identify additional integration opportunities.
20. Collaborate with users to identify needs and gather requirements for reporting, enhancements, changes, etc. as they pertain to assigned applications.
Provide consistent and reliable support to the users and provide training and documentation for optimal use of the application.
Key Qualifications / Experience / Skills:
• University Degree in Computer science/Electrical/Electronics/Telecommunications Engineering or equivalent qualification
• At least two (2) years experience in systems administration in a highly reputable organization.
• Strong knowledge of IT operations and Business Support Systems.
• Knowledge in computer operations LINUX, Windows 2010 working environments and Exchange Server 2010
• Networking knowledge preferably Microsoft and Cisco networking
• Database knowledge specifically MSSQL or oracle.
• Proficient with independently troubleshooting, researching and resolving technically challenging problems involving integrated systems.
• Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Unix and Microsoft is an added advantage
• Innovative for original solutions for job.
• Able to Investigate customer wishes and needs and acting accordingly; anticipating customer needs; giving high priority to service and customer satisfaction.
• Attentive in listening, as demonstrated by the capacity to pick up significant information from verbal communications; continuing to ask questions; investigating reactions.
• Proper judgment to involve other parties at the right time and drawing correct and realistic conclusions based on the information available
• Identifying problems; recognizing significant information; making connections between data; tracing possible causes of problems; investigating relevant data. Capable to participate in multi-domain root cause analysis activities.
• Standing back from day-to-day activities; concentrating on major issues and long-term policy.
