The Jane Goodall Institute is a non-profit organization registered in Tanzania with the focus to carry out wildlife research, Education and Conservation. The institute's mission is to inspire and empower people to take informed, compassionate action to make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment. The institute supports coordination, management and movements of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots programme which is Environmental and humanitarian education programme for young people from pre-schools through University ages. In schools and communities, Roots & Shoots remains vibrant and excellent youth program that allows youth to learn and take self-initiatives to save the Environments, Animals and Communities.
A position for the Roots & Shoots Programme Coordinator for the western Tanzania is open to any Roots & Shoots qualified members!
Successful candidate will be based in Kigoma, and shall report to the Executive Director of JGI-TZ. S/He will be charged with the following roles
Plan and implement all environmental education activities in the western Tanzania
Coordinate Roots & Shoots activities in schools around the Gombe Masito Ugalla Ecosystem
Coordinate and maintains Roots & Shoots contacts for the western and southwestern Tanzania
Recruits, trains and mentor Roots & Shoots leaders and volunteers in the western Tanzania
Maintain collaborations between Roots & Shoots and other programmes of the Jane Goodall Institute-Tanzania
Organize, coordinate and facilitate nature based activities and outdoor activities and campaiqns for members
Maintains the western Tanzania Roots & Shoots memberships, databases and membership registration
Assist the Director with fundraising for events, activities and various environmental campaigns
Organize, coordinate and facilitate special programme activities and campaigns such as tree plantings, fire prevention, wildlife conservation awareness and teachers and students trainings and workshops
Design, produce and distribute environmental related education materials for schools and communities
Prepare timely reports, plans and data related information regarding Roots & Shoots activities in the westernTanzania
Eligible candidates must possess the following qualifications
A Diploma in Forestry or wildlife Conservation management, PLUS a Degree in either Education majored in Biology, Wildlife Conservation, Forestry or Conservation Agriculture
Hiqh level of passion and compassion to the children, youth, teachers, volunteers and other co-workers
Proven member of a Roots & Shoots Club during his/her primary or Secondary school time
A solid understanding and practical application of Nature based youth activities, environmental education activities or youth based outdoor Programmes
A proven 3 years' experience in youth activities with International Organizations
Proactive, open minded, creative, wise and flexible to work under stressed environments with minimum supervision
Competent and fluent in English, report writing, project planning and coaching skills
Knowledge of extension services, youth programmes and organization of workshops, trainings and conferences application Procedure:
