Tumaini University Makumira has received a grant from the European Development Fund
for the project "Traditional Music and Dance Preservation and Promotion in Northern
Tanzania" and now invites applications for the training in dance and professional skills.
Background:
One of the goals of the Project is to train and hire a professional group of dancer/musicians for' the Cultural Arts Centre to present multiple performances per week in the new performance space being built at Tumaini University Makumira and also to do outreach to the schools and communities. 30 persons will be selected for this training and receive a certificate upon completion. At the end the Project will hire IS dancer/musicians full-time that have completed this training.
Requirements:
Knowledge and experience in traditional dance/drumming is REQUIRED. This course is designed to upgrade existing skills to a professional level.
Age 18-35 and completion of Form 4 is REQUIRED. The project is looking for talented and disciplined dancer/musicians.
This training gives preference to Tanzanians. Maasai, Meru, and Chagga that meet the qualifications are especially encouraged to apply. Also, women are encouraged to apply to help get proper gender balance.
Other music skills, such as playing instruments, traditional and/or western, are an ADVANTAGE.
Basic spoken and written English is REQUIRED. This will be demonstrated by following these instructions correctly.

Applicants may also submit DVD or YouTube links to video showing the applicant in performance (optional).
Main aspects of the intensive course include:
Course Dates: 4-29 May (Saturdays and Sundays are free)
Practical and theoretical training in dance and professional skills for performers will be taught by Cultural Arts Centre staff, Alliance Franco-Tanzania staff, and other experts from Tanzania and abroad.
All training course fees and a stipend will be paid by grant funds from the European Development Fund for this project. Housing will also be included.
Dancers must sign an agreement that they will be available for the entire course period.
Failure to complete the course requirements-will result in forfeit of the stipend,
