In 2007 Statoil signed a production sharing agreement (PSA) for Block 2 with Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC). Statoil Tanzania AS is the operator with 65% working interest with ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Limited as a partner with 35% interest.
In 2012 and 2013 Statoil and its partner made the significant Zafarani, Lavani, Tangawizi and Mronge discoveries in Block 2, which covers an area of approximately 5,500 square kilometres and lies in water depths between 1,500 to 3,000 metres. The discoveries have proved 17-20 Tcf of in-place volumes and mark an important step towards a possible natural gas development in Tanzania
Statoil is looking for a qualified Tanzanian National to work as a Social Performance Consultant in the Sustainability Departement. Working with a growing Sustainability Team in Tanzania, the Sustainability Performance Consultant will be responsible for coordinating the company’s sustainability monitoring, reporting, and integration activities, both internally and externally.
Statoil is proud to be the lead partner in the future offshore and onshore development of the natural gas development in Tanzania.

Job description

  • Accountability to monitor and report the activities related to;
  • The environmental and social aspects of Statoil's existing and future operational activities
  • Capacity building and supplier development activities, and
  • Social investment intended to support broader benefits both within Statoil's areas of operation and elsewhere
  • Additional key areas of monitoring and reporting include, resettlement planning and implementation, community and civil society engagement, grievance process implementation, social investment, capacity building, local content, and human rights and labor in the supply chain.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and Oral Kiswahili and English Language skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, business or other related disciplines. Masters is an added advantage
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in social risk management and impact assessment processes adopted by other private sector developers
  • Understanding of oil and gas sector, key issues and impacts and opportunities

  • Demonstration of cultural sensitivity and empathy in regards to local communities
  • Organized, with ability to prioritise activities and make decisions in complex situations with many parties involved
  • Ability to work unsupervised, demonstrate initiative and deal with ad hoc requests as part of a role that does not always have a standard routine
  • High ethical awareness and integrity and identify with Statoil’s values
  • High degree of integrity, self-contained and able to motivate colleagues in project teams
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills internally and externally with the ability to work in multi-cultural environments
  • Knowledgeable about current affairs and familiar with oil and gas industry in Tanzania
  • Analytical, evaluation and report writing skills
  • Delivers high quality work under tight deadlines, with ability to multitask
  • Demonstrates a hands-on approach, and follows-through
  • Strong information technology (IT) skills, extensive familiarity with Microsoft based applications. Programming experience will be an added advantage.
