Location:                                Raleigh Tanzania Field Office with frequent travel to Placement Areas and Recruitment Catchment Areas

Overall Purpose of the Job

The Youth Development Officer will be a member of Raleigh Tanzania’s in-country team. The purpose of the role will be to support the implementation of the International Citizenship Service Entrepreneurship (ICSE) programme through effecting Raleigh Tanzania’s Youth Development strategy through engaging local youth to join our programmes, support all youth volunteers during the programme and support their transition to be active citizens through Action At Home and the National Youth Society.  Key elements of this role will be engagement and selection of youth, supporting national and international youth on programme, supporting alumni and supporting the National Youth Society.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Volunteer Engagement
·         Support the implementation of the Youth Development Strategy
·         Promote Raleigh International among young people in Tanzania, both directly and through other organisations, and recruit participants in accordance with the targets set out in the Youth Development Strategy.
·         Maintain engagement methods such as social media to maximise the impact of our marketing.
·         Deliver Marketing Events to increase engagement and interest in the programmes.




Selection
·         Support the delivery of selection events, including regional events in targeted areas.
·         Effectively document of volunteer journey including Jobscience recording.
·         Ensure a robust review system of training delivery and selection process to maintain a high standard of delivery and selection.
·         Ensure all Raleigh policies and protocols are in place during all training events.

Programme Support
·         Provide support to all Raleigh country staff to ensure projects are implemented against agreed plans, standards and criteria.
·         Support the training of Raleigh Volunteers to ensure their programmatic knowledge and strategic awareness is optimum for the delivery of a quality placement.
·         Support the volunteer staff so that they can achieve Raleigh’s aims. This will include team-building, briefing, providing advice and guidance, and giving practical and moral support and supervision
·         Maintain a sound knowledge of Raleigh International’s operating environment in Tanzania and understand developments of good practice and policies in relevant areas.

Alumni and Society
·         Support a post placement social action programme for national volunteers to create active citizens.
·         Support the development of a Raleigh National Youth Society.
·         Utilise the alumni’s experience and capacity to further support the Youth Development Programme and ensure continued engagement.

Other Responsibilities
·         Attend regular organisational meetings and contribute to the overall smooth operation of Raleigh in country.
·         Support senior staff  to monitor and report on the implementation of agreed plans
·         Collect information as requested by Line Manager
·         Take part in other Raleigh activities as requested.
·         Undertake other tasks and projects as requested by the Line Manager
·         Positively contribute to programme strategy
·         Contribute to regular review and revision of budgets and financial reports

Person Specification

Essential
·         Experience of working with young people of different cultures and backgrounds
·         Team Leader /Volunteer Manager position on ICS or equivalent programmes
·         Knowledge and experience in youth led, sustainable development
·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili
·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
·         Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
·         An enthusiastic, energetic team-player, with a ‘can do’ attitude
·         Excellent computer skills (Ms Word and Ms Excell certificate)
·         Commitment to the aims, ethos and culture of Raleigh International

Desirable
·         A good understanding of environmental and development issues
·         Knowledge of online marketing and social media
·         Understanding of ICS programme
·         Public speaking and presentation skills
