ABOUT
THE CLIMATE PARLIAMENT
The Climate Parliament is a global network of legislators
working to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. We
raise awareness of climate change amongst MPs, as well as of the multitude of
other risks of a reliance on fossil fuels. We support legislators in taking
political, legislative and budgetary initiatives to promote solar, wind,
hydroelectric, biomass, geothermal and other forms of renewable energy. Our
approach involves developing policies that promote investment in renewables
from the smallest scale: the rural standalone and mini-grid technologies that
can transform lives in the poorest communities, to the largest: inter-regional renewable
energy supergrids that will give humanity the power to ditch fossil fuels for
good.
Active in Tanzania since 2012, we are embarking on an exciting
project to deepen our policy impact in the Tanzanian parliament, working with
our existing cross-party network of Tanzanian MPs. Our focus will be on seizing
key policy moments in the coming months to ensure that Tanzania’s renewable
energy policy is strengthened so as to attract the investment the country needs
to harness its rich renewable resources and increase energy access for those
without modern energy services. The project forms part of our on-going work to
strengthen our parliamentary networks across the East African region.
The successful candidate will be an
experienced political networker with a background in advocacy and a strong
grasp of Tanzanian energy, climate and national development policies. S/he will
be a native of Tanzania and a fast learner with an ability to hit the ground
running.
