The
EAC is a regional organization mandated by the governments of Burundi, Kenya,
Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda to spearhead the East African economic, social and
political integration agenda. The Treaty for the establishment of the East
African Community was signed in November 1999 and entered into force in July
2000.
Applications
are invited from suitably qualified Nationals of the Republic of Burundi for

PRINCIPAL GENDER AND COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT

Reports to: Director, Social Sectors
Main Purpose of the Job:
To
initiate, formulate, coordinate harmonization of policies, strategies and plans
relating to Gender and Community Development in the East African Community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Develop and facilitate the implementation of
policies, strategies and frameworks in the area of Gender, Community
Development and Civil Society Mobilisation;
2.
In liaison with other Departments, Agencies
and Stakeholders in the Partner States, design and implement strategies to
ensure mainstreaming of Gender in all programmes, projects and activities of
the Community, its Organs and Institutions;
3.
Design and promote strategies to ensure
effective mobilization of communities to actively participate in EAC
programmes;
4.
Formulate programmes and project proposals to
facilitate resource mobilisation in areas of Gender, Community Development
& Civil Society mobilisation;
5.
Coordinate and convene in collaboration with
the Private Sector, Civil Society and other Interest Groups the Annual EAC SG’s
Forum and in the overall implementation of the Consultative Dialogue Framework
for the Private Sector, Civil Society and Other Interest Groups;
6.

Liaise
with other regional economic communities, the AU and UN agencies
|
|
on gender,
community development & Civil Society related issues;
|
7.
Monitor implementation of international
conventions on the advancement of Gender equality by Partner States;
8.
|
Undertake/ initiate
evidence based research to guide policy and
|
decision
|
|
making and
disseminate disaggregated data;
|
|
9.
Organize and convene meetings on Gender and
Community Development, and Civil Society Forums;
10.
Prepare Sectoral reports and Position papers
for consideration by the sectoral Council for Gender;
11.
|
Prepare progress and technical
reports to inform policy making
|
process
|
|
by the EAC Council in regard to
Gender mainstreaming in the
|
Community,
|
|
Organs and Institutions,
|
|
12.
Undertake
any other assignments as may be required.
Qualifications and Experience:
A
Master’s degree in Social sciences, Gender & Development Studies, Project
Planning and Management, or equivalent qualification from a recognized
University.
10 years experience in the relevant field
with 5 years at senior level. Knowledge of the regional Gender and Community
Development policies and working with Civil Society Organizations is
essential..
