PLANT METALLURGIST
The plant metallurgist will be part of the Metallurgical team within our Processing Department and will report to the process Superintendent. The team is responsible for optimizing the gold recovery process through process plant optimization and effective cost management, while developing the national staff. The key areas of responsibility will include the following;
Duties and Responsibilities
• Safety-ensuring departmental compliance with company and statutory safety and environmental standards and policy.
• Production –Ensuring gold production targets are met or exceed in a safe and efficient manner by ensuring optimum gold recoveries are maintained
• Technical support –Develop and optimize the key operating parameters for the plant and provide systems by which these parameters can be monitored and maintained by the Metallurgical and process operations team
• Staff development – provide technical input for the departmental training programmes ensuring all employees are provided the opportunity to learn and apply skills that are aligned with the objectives of the company
• Continuous improvement-provide a formalized process for evaluation of achievements against performance objectives and ensure areas for improvement are identified
• Cost control-maintain an effective metal accounting system and participate in departmental budget compilation and cost control initiative. Monitoring of reagents and other consumables and providing consumption guidelines to the process operations and Maintenance teams
Qualifications
• Tertiary qualifications in metallurgy-Bsc Eng or BSc chemical Engineering, Minerals Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years mineral processing experience (preferably gold) with some supervisory experience
• Demonstrate operational experience with SABC grinding, gravity recovery, CIL and CIC elution circuits
• Heap Leach/Dump Leach operational experience desirable
• Experience with process control systems
• Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring and developing local/ national staff in a developing country
• Current driver’s license
Skills
• Advanced software skills in Microsoft Office suite, Exposure to database and experience with Wonder ware interface systems
• Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture
• Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment
