If your answer is yes, then the 2014 TMF Senior Journalists and Editors Fellowship on Combating Drug Trafficking and Preventing Drug Abuse is here for you.
Tanzania Media Fund (TMF) is an initiative that seeks to promote media independence and quality journalism in the media, with a particular focus on public interest and investigative journalism. In partnership with the UN Information Center (UNIC) and the Drugs Control Commission (DCC), TMF believes that the media is a critical player in promoting domestic accountability a vision this fellowship seeks to address.
Eligibility
A firm commitment to working in journalism in Tanzania
'Senior print journalists and editors who write and are part of the editorial team
'Minimum 10-15 years working experience in senior newsroom position (senior reporters, news editors and editors)
'Accomplished and prolific writers who want to further their journalism skills and career in combating drug trafficking and preventing drug abuse NOT beginners or junior reporters
'Courageous, Resilient, Innovative, Independent, Confidence and Self Reliant.
'Willingness to commit five months into the fellowship (two weeks per month in the field, one week in seminars/feedback sessions
and one week in their newsroom)
'Proven professional integrity and ethical, well mannered and disciplined 'Knowledge of English and Kiswahili
'Interest in "Social Media"
Criteria for application:
'Detailed CY on your profession and key achievements
'A detailed comprehensive story idea pitch of four (4) stories you wish to investigate one on each category (drugs trafficking , drug abuse, rehabilitation and treatment and legal framework).Why you want to write the stories, value added and possible story outcome and impact when written .
'Each story idea concept should include proposed story topic, comprehensive preliminary research on each topic, supporting data, facts, documents, sources, and experts to be interviewed etc.
'Personal experience of 200 words or less, detailing your journalistic professional experience, career goals, plans and aspirations; and why you think you are the best candidate and what value you will add to the Fellowship Programme.
'Two Letters of recommendation; one from a fellow journalist and professional and your managing editor who can attribute your professional competence.
'Permission and leave letter from your employer to guarantee permission to join the program and guarantee to publish work. 'Two best published work samples of your feature stories related to combating drug trafficking and preventing drug abuse if you have but if not bring any.
NOTE: The program is not intended to provide basic journalistic training skills to the applicants.
Successful Fellows will learn from the best journalism and Drug Combating, Trafficking and Abuse Prevention experts and will get a modest monthly living stipend and research money.
