Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The selected intern will work directly in the HR team of UN Women. He/she will work on specific communications/ internal marketing projects to help improve access to information and the image or 'branding' of the HR team and function in the Organization.
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Human Resources Learning team, the intern will assist the HR Learning team with streamlining work processes related to learning and training focal points and reporting. A work plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon and feedback will be provided both in real time as well as a summary of work accomplished at the end of the internship.
Duties and Responsibilities
Tasks and responsibilities of four internship positions
  • HR Learning Intern support: Co-manage UN Women network of interns from onboarding to exit. Specifically,
  • Provide orientation and support to new interns with becoming familiar with the agency, its mandates, structure, policies, and expectations;
  • Provide guidelines and templates for intern work plans, support interns in drafting work plans in timely manner, and guide with how to give and receive work related feedback from their hiring managers;
  • Organize career development workshops and encourage interns to develop skills in job searching and interviewing.
  • Plan and organise social events for interns such as UN Secretariat tours, inter-agency visits, and liaise regularly with interns to ensure any wellness concerns are addressed in timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain Facebook UN Women intern group page and any other social media to distribute news, and support the social activities of the intern community;
  • Schedule and conduct exit and evaluation of internship experience, and summarize findings to ensure quality assurance of programme for future interns and hiring managers.
HR Learning Talent Management: Assist in creation of guidelines for Talent Management Rebuttal Process (relevant experience required in Public Administration or Human Resources)
  • Provide input into the establishment of Talent Management Rebuttal Process for evaluating ratings on Performance Management and Development tool
  • Support roll-out of trainings and development of curriculum on TMRP
HR Learning Mentorship Programme Intern: Assist in creation of guidelines and launch of Mentorship Programme (relevant experience required in Public Administration, Human Resources, or Education)
  • Provide substantial input into the development of Mentorship Programme guidelines at UN Women, based on literature review of similar programmes at other UN agencies;
  • Organize mentorship matches and training workshops to support mentorship relationships;
  • Oversee mentorship relations and respond to concerns.
HR Learning IT Intern: Create a dashboard for oversight of staff learning progress (relevant experience required in IT).
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of the HR Learning dashboard to track Learning Plan by role, Mandatory Course compliance, and Rosetta Stone language usage;
  • Logistical set-up for staff learning events;
  • All positions assist in logistical and operational support of the HR Learning team. Intern may also take on special projects, as desired.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Strong academic background in education, learning, staff development, human resources, international development or other related field;
  • He or she should be currently enrolled in a Master's level degree or final year of undergraduate, or have graduated in the last year.
Experience:
  • Experience in coordination and delivery of training event activities and working in an international environment would be desirable.
Language:
  • Fluency in English is required; additional languages, especially UN languages, desired.
Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women
