Chief Financial Officer for Ifakara Health Institute (IHI)
Our Client Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is one of Africa’s most eminent health research organizations. With a history of more than 50 years, IHI is an independent, non-profit organization, registered in Tanzania and led by Tanzanians. IHI conducts a wide range of health-related research, including biomedical and environmental studies, trials of drugs, vaccines and diagnostics, health-systems research, and monitoring and evaluation.
The CFO will report to the Chief Executive Director and supervising six (6) accounting managers. They will be responsible for the management for the all finance units in the organization and for providing accurate and reliable finance management information for management decision making and oversee all accounting operations and controls within the Institute.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The CFO will be accountable and responsible for, among others to:
• Development, implementing monitoring and custodianship of all finance and accounting processes, systems and records;
• Monitor consolidated budget (i.e., prepare, review, and analyze variance reports reflecting department financial status), prepare financial forecasts, identify and analyze financial problems, and recommend solutions;
• Ensure accurate, complete & timely financial and management reporting, including monthly management accounts, balance sheet control;
• Lead the preparation and release of financial, accounting, management and statutory reports
• Financial analysis periodically, evaluating profitability of income streams, and potential for cost efficiencies;
• Ensure accurate and timely administration of all tax and statutory compliance issues including central bank prudential returns, VAT and other taxes;
• Management of Payroll and related statutory payments and returns;
• Cash flow management by ensuring adequate funding, monitoring credit lines, control of supplier’s payment, monitoring treasury and expenses against budget, etc;
• Developing appropriate mechanisms to control the Institute’s exposure and enforcing accounting procedures, respecting local regulations;
• Effectively leading the accounting unit leaders, managing their performance and facilitating their training and development;
• Working with the Deputy Executive Director to optimize performance of the accounting unit through appropriate structures and mechanisms;
• Maintaining good relations with stakeholders including bankers and Partners etc; and
• Ensure finalization of accounts and submissions for external audit
Qualification and experience required:
• Business degree /MBA majoring in Finance or Accounting with a professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, ICMA, CIMA etc;
• 10 years’ experience in financial management and accounting;
• Director level prior experience in an organization with an annual turnover of above 30 billion TZS;
• Registered by NBAA at least at the category of associate ship;
• Sound knowledge of financial management and IFRS accounting procedures;
• Demonstrable leadership ability;
• Ability to work in multicultural environment; and
• Highest level of integrity with a track record;
