Any other candidate profile will not be considered The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations and the principal forum for cooperation between postal sector stakeholders, establishes the rules for international mail exchanges. It has 192 member countries and has its headquarters in Berne. Its primary objective is to encourage the provision of a quality postal service that is accessible to all, and its core mission is to develop social, cultural and commercial communication between people of the world. The traineeship will involve helping with preparations for the organization's Strategy Conference, which will take place on 14 and 15 October 2014 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (Rep.). This international gathering will serve to set the guidelines for the development of the UPU's future strategy (2017-2020 cycle). | |
Main duties: The UPU is looking for a trainee to work closely with the Deputy Director General and the members of the Executive Office (Strategy Programme), helping with the following tasks, among others: - research and gathering of key information; - preparation of conference themes; - preparation of agendas and assignment of the roles of the various parties involved; - drafting of documents and reports for member countries and conference participants; - preparation and drafting of speeches and documents presented and discussed by the UPU Director General and Deputy Director General. | |
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED | |
The trainee must be: - a student registered in a bachelor's or master's programme with an international focus in one of the following fields, or a related field: economics or relations/cooperation/development, or public or NGO administration/management; or - a doctoral student preparing a thesis on a subject related to the fields listed above. | |
Skills and abilities / competencies: The successful candidate must possess a high degree of intellectual curiosity, a strong capacity for analysis and synthesis, excellent written communication skills, and a strong awareness of development cooperation and international economics in general. | |
