In South Africa, UNICEF supports national efforts to realize children’s rights by promoting evidence-based policy advocacy and strategic partnerships as a means to leverage policies and resources for children, giving special attention to vulnerable children and disparity reduction. It works in the areas of health and nutrition, early childhood development; basic education; child protection and social policy, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
FIXED-TERM
Duration: 2 years – with possibility of extension
PURPOSE OF THE POST:
Under the guidance of the Chief of Education, to be responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of UNICEF SACO’s quality education programmes with a focus on improving learning outcomes. Interested candidates must have demonstrated skills in designing and evaluating cost effective scalable interventions to support an equitable quality learning opportunity for all children in South Africa. Strong technical skills in data analyzes will be required to ensure achievement of result statements and the ability to take corrective action when necessary to meet programme objectives. Candidates must also be able to contribute to the development and/or introduction of new approaches, methods and practices in programme management and evaluation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced university degree in Education or the Social Sciences fields relevant to international development assistance.
- Eight years of progressively professional work experience at national or international levels in fields relevant to Education programmes.

- Current knowledge of development issues and policies, as well as programming policies, planning and procedures in international development cooperation.
- Analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
