FIELD ENVIRONMENTAL MONITOR

Job Purpose:
- Serve as a point of contact for environmental and regulatory compliance queries from the Contractor in the field.
- Communicate all permit obligations& requirements to the site teams & contractors.
- Monitor Contractor’s day to day activities and ensure compliance with all mitigation measures in the Environmental Management Plan.
- Work with the site EHS Superintendents & QC’s to ensure adequate Environmental Inspection coverage in the field.
- Record environmental non-compliances and other issues and review the site action trackers to ensure these are closed out.
- Monitor Contractor’s daily implementation of avoidance and mitigation measures for all known archeological sites and other identified environmentally sensitive flora or fauna
Key Responsibilities:
- To undertaken environmental audits with the field Environmental Advisor.
- To assess environmental and compliance issues and ensure quick actions are taken to remedy and resolve any potential or actual non-compliance.
- Inspect water treatments plants on a regular basis.
- Undertake water sampling and feedback on results.
- Document environmental compliance activities through photographs and regular reports.
- Advise the EHS Superintendent & QC’s on Contractor environmental performance on a regular basis.
- Assist the Field Environmental Advisor with needed information for obligations reports and weekly and monthly management report.
- Give training on environmental issues at the sites.
- Implement Corporate Environmental initiatives across operational sites
- Support Tullow Kenya’s incident investigation and reporting requirements for environmental incidents.
Education and requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Sciences, Geology, Geological Engineering or other related field.

Reports to the Lead EHS Superintendant
Job Purpose:
In this role, you will undertake a program of training and mentoring at operational sites on a rotational basis with the view to progressing to civil engineering, seismic or drilling operations EHS Superintendant position. - Demonstrable knowledge of operational hazards – Lifting equipment, working at heights, plant isolation/PTW systems, Road/Air/sea transport safety, Chemicals, PPE, ER systems/equipment, Fire Protection, Office safety procedures.
- Practical knowledge of the risk assessment process, identification of hazards & the implementation of control measures to reduce risk in operational activities.

CORPORATE AFFAIRS ADVISOR
Reports operationally reports to Business Unit Manager, Kenya and functionally to the Regional External Affairs Manager, South and East Africa.
Job Purpose:
In this role, you will be accountable and responsible for developing and delivering targeted communications and engagement strategies / plans in support of Tullow Oil Kenya’s key business objectives. You will also be responsible for mapping stakeholders across key audience groups including government / authorities, media, industry, partners and national NGOs; deliver appropriate and targeted external and internal communications activities and provide community communications support to the Social Performance team. You will also support the Business Unit Manager and Operations Manager with a range of key engagements from government meetings to external leveraging opportunities such as conferences and functions. You will be required to develop communications collateral (materials) in support of planned engagement activities. You will also act as a key spokesperson – authorised to speak to media on behalf of Tullow Oil Kenya. While this role will initially be focused on supporting the immediate business requirements, the incumbent must also account for long term development and operational requirements in the event that the initial exploration campaign proves to be successful. This position also plays a critical role in building and maintaining Tullow Oil’s reputation in country as an operator of choice.
Key responsibilities
Stakeholder Management
- Utilises a range of tools with primary and secondary stakeholders in order to influence decision making among government, industry, NGOs, regulators, academics and media.
- Identifies key contextual risks and opportunities to inform engagement strategies and plans.
- Generates, maintains and utilises a network of key contacts across stakeholder groups.

Education & Experience:
- Hold a formal degree qualification. Qualifications may come from the fields of Communications; and / or Political science.
- At least 10 years experience in political / corporate affairs role in East Africa.
- Demonstrated experience in handling complex and sensitive business issues with key media.
- Demonstrated experience in interacting with ethnically diverse impacted groups and African based NGO groups.
- Experience managing culturally diverse teams.
- Previous experience in oil & gas and / or infrastructure project development would be desirable but not essential.
- Sound understanding of the regional and national government structures and workings in view of the political context in which the business operates
- Sound understanding on business drivers / deliverables.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISOR
Reports operationally to the EHS Operations Adviser and functionally to the Corporate Environmental Manager.
Job Purpose:
In this role, you will advise in-country operations on all aspects of environmental compliance by developing and managing an operational and environmental permitting and licensing plan to enable the activities of the company to proceed in full compliance with national, international, Tullow and industry based standards; and by establishing, documenting, implementing and maintaining an EMS that fulfills the requirements of ISO 14001:2004.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish regulatory and permitting requirements, develop legal compliance register (with emphasis on environmental legislation & implications of new Kenyan Constitution) and a regulatory and permitting management plan to ensure compliance
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationship with regulatory authorities
- Manage compilation of environmental reports (EIA’s) and submission of environmental permitting and licensing applications to relevant Government authority/agency
- Compile, collate and disseminate permitting/license status reports to all relevant internal and external parties
- Compile, collate and maintain all relevant records relating to environmental permits and license applications, and status thereof
- In collaboration with Group Environmental Manager, establish, document, implement and maintain EMS for Tullow’s Kenyan operations that fulfills the requirements of ISO 14001:2004
- Manage field officers to implement environment management plan and ensure compliance with all legislation.
- Establish, document, implement and maintain project specific environmental management, waste management and oil spill response plans.
- Support local management by establishing and maintaining relationships with Government agencies and departments (e.g. NEMA), NGO’s, CBO’s and other appropriate environmental stakeholders, managing expectations and promoting Tullow business operations.
- Provide assistance and support to Local Management for the identification of stakeholders and resolution of stakeholder issues, including consulting with public bodies as appropriate; support the management of field CLOs; and support the identification of sustainable community development projects.
- Take lead position in ensuring organization compliance with all applicable environmental legislation within Tullow and contractor operations by way of inspections, audits, monitoring, reporting and being accountable for closing audit findings/actions
Education & Experience:
- Higher Degree in Environmental Sciences or related field
- At least 5 years working experience in environmental related practices, preferably in the oil and gas industry
- Working knowledge of the Kenyan environmental legislation and
- Kenyan ESIA assessment and approvals process
- Skills in environmental compliance auditing and monitoring
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience on the development and roll-out of environmental management systems in accordance with recognized international standards
- Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team and influence others in the delivery of good environmental performance
- Good written and verbal communication skills at all levels
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, especially with respect to stakeholder and 3rd party management
