For more than 50 years,the African Wildlife Foundation(AWF) has been a key player in African Conservation and sustainable development. AWF is currently seeking an experienced Livestock Manager to support the operations of its Conservancy in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for management of livestock activities in the conservancy including sales and marketing, abattoir operations and maintaining the breed to the highest quality standard as well as planning and implementing infrastructural improvement related to the efficient and profitable management of livestock. The position will take the lead role on major livestock files, implementation of livestock strategic actions and management of stakeholder
relationships that impact the growth of the livestock. Operationally this will entail developing and implementing policies, sales and marketing to improve livestock management, profitability, implementing and controlling agreed annual budgets, ensuring appropriate records are maintained. The person will develop and improve beef slaughter and processing facilities within the allowed budgetary expenditure. Ensure that the stock is managed effectively to maintain the highest standard of quality, liaise with Conservancy Manager and other relevant departments in the planning and management of range land improvement measures, coordinate the grazing plan, spraying regimeand general health of all livestock;oversee the management of more the
commercial herd;support the community outreach programs where necessary, initiate and support the development and implementation of plans to improve the beef processing facilities and infrastructure on the company related to the management of livestock.Represent the company in local and international meetings, livestock shows and exhibitions marketing the stock.This position will report to the Conservancy Manager.
The successful candidate will;
-Have a Bachelor’sdegree in Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or Livestock Management.
-Have a minimum of 5 years’ commercial livestock experience.
-Have experience in determining livestock quality and value.
-Have proven ability instock and pasture management.
-Have a minimum one year supervisory experience.
-Be computer literate.
-Have good interpersonal skills.
-Be self-motivated with high degree of flexibility.
-Have good communication skills
-Be a team player.
-Have strong written and verbal communication in Kiswahili, English and the local languages.
-Strong positive history of professionalism and working with people
-Resourceful, creative, and able to use common sense
-Excellent analytical and reporting skills, team player requiring minimum supervision
and to work under pressure.
-A strong interest in conservation
