The purpose of the role is to support the VP: Strategy & Outreach in designing and implementing a CAR sustainability communications strategy and in supporting Business Unit capacity building in effective message delivery related to sustainability.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:
- Develop, implement, maintain and monitor a Continental Africa Region (CAR) sustainability external communications strategy.
- Draft and maintain communications policies, protocols, guidelines and standard processes.
- Define content types and templates.
- Identify CAR target audiences and key messages to support achievement of CAR objectives.
- Manage content development and dissemination.
- Provide professional writing, proof reading and editing services across the business units.
- Repurpose internal content for external use.
- Provide research, analysis and preparation of responses to media queries in coordination with Corporate, Region, and Buiness Unit communications.
- Monitor & evaluate CAR / Business Unit communications (including media monitoring and public opinion polling) regarding sustainability.
- Coordinate and align external communications.
- Advise CAR sustainability senior management on external communications issues.
- Establish and maintain linkeages between internal and external communications.
- Plan and manage external events and support CAR participation in external events.
- Communicate CAR sustainability messages to external audiences.
- Support CAR Business Units with the following:
- Strategic communication planning frameworks.
- Generic communications structures
- Capacity building including communications knowledge management and networking.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A recognised three year qualification in communication, media or public relations or equivalent
- A minimum of 7 years' work experience of which 3 years should be within corporate communications, media management and public relations
- Proven knowledge of corporate communications, media management and public relations essential
- Media management, analytical skills, people management, leadership abilities, communication management and consultation and negotiation skills essential
- Knowledge of sub-Saharan Africa culture and political history would be a strong advantage
- Training skills
- Fluency in French will be beneficial
