We are currently seeking to fill the position of Senior Policy Advisor –Food Security and Climate Change, based either the International Office, Birmingham or London. The job holder will be responsible to ensure Islamic Relief’s global policies and strategy are effective in bringing positive change on issues of food security, climate change and related issues, and that they emerge from a deep understanding of how they affect the lives of the people we serve in fragile states in Africa, the Middle East and S.Asia. To also ensure engagement at policy level on these issues with leading international and national institutions and stakeholders, and mobilisation at community level both in the North and South utilising where appropriate faith based values and teaching.
The candidate must be dynamic, determined and genuinely motivated by the desire to see change. S(H)e will have a wide range of skills and experience, including an in-depth understanding of managing policy development and research processes, ideally in the role of food security and climate change within the humanitarian aid field. The successful candidate should have a proven capacity to produce a well researched written analysis in professional English, together with knowledge of another language skill, particularly French and Arabic would be an added advantage.
The job holder will also require strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to work effectively in a multi-cultural team and work under pressure to tight deadlines, although a post graduate degree would be an advantage, substantial work experience will be considered.
