• EABL Uganda comprises of brewing and distillation plant with installed capacities of one million hectolitres for the brewery and 1,000,000 9L cases for distillery per annum
• Sales and marketing team with approximately 50 fleet across the country
Purpose of Role:
• Provide leadership to the business in the areas of Health and Safety Risk Management framework
Top Accountabilities:
• Developing and reviewing HS management systems and procedures
o Review of safety policy and management systems
o Annual reviews of safety risk assessments
o Review of internal procedures for continuous improvement
o Development and execution of specific HS training to support competence development in this area
o Communication of the policy and changes
o Completion of HS LTO action plans
• Management of the HS performance programme
o Development of annual safety plan/objectives
o Annual LTO HS Audits – Level 1 and level 2
o Daily, weekly and monthly safety performance reports
o Accident Investigation and reporting
o Development of safety promotion programs to engage all stakeholders
• Management of the HS compliance programme
o Keeping abreast with new HS legislation and advising management accordingly
o Relationship management with regulatory authorities such as NEMA and Directorate of Occupational Health
o Planning for Annual Statutory audits
o Working closely with Diageo/EABL team in raising compliance to Diageo risk management standards
o Lead in preparation for OSHAS 18001 audits and closure of the gaps
o Communication and training of contractors on our compliance program
• Development and maintenance of an effective loss control program
o Lead in development of both Crisis and emergency response plans for the site
o Annual crisis simulation testing of crisis and emergency plans
o Lead in Closure of gaps by Insurance surveyors
o Development of an effective maintenance system of all HS systems on site for execution by engineers
o Management of the Safety Maintenance Contract
o Site evacuations and fire practices
o Work with occupational health professional to ensure adequate First Aid Coverage and maintenance
• Lead Execution of the Risk Assessment Program
o Identify and evaluate potential threats to the BU operations arising from H&S risks
o Lead the business in development of mitigation plans and follow-up
• Qualifications
o Tertiary qualification-BSc in a strong science discipline or University degree in Engineering disciplines
o Assessor/Lead Assessor certificate in OHSAS
o Training on Environment and OHS, Factories Act and management
• Skills / Knowledge
o Strong functional and technical skills in OSHAS 18001 safety management, ISO 14001 environmental management
o Fire and safety management
o Diageo risk management standards, ISO disciplines, HACCP and GMP
o Negotiation skills, team working skills, coaching skills and project management
o Good understanding of processes and associated skills in problem solving, communication and auditing
o Fire fighting, and first aid skills and good knowledge of statutory requirements and training in factory health and safety management.
• Experience
o 3 years first line management experience
o 4 years experience at middle management level within the plant
o Significant experience in OHS and environment management
