Emergency Public Health Advisor Based in Juba, South Sudan Salary: £20,619- £27,642 net per annum plus other benefits
Who we are
Oxfam is a worldwide organisation that works with over 1,000 partners in more than 70 countries to overcome poverty and suffering. Oxfam GB has been working in South Sudan for more than 20 years and has played a pivotal role in delivering emergency response alongside longer-term development assistance. The Programme is currently implementing Public Health and Livelihoods in Upper Nile and Lakes States and has an Emergency Preparedness and response team that operates across the all the ten states. In support of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Programme we are looking for an Emergency Public Health Advisor with a strong commitment to the needs of the poor, highly developed interpersonal skills, and one who is comfortable working at community and national levels.
About the Role
The Emergency Public Health Advisor will be responsible for ensuring emergency preparedness and response activities are in line with the minimum standards established by Oxfam GB and coherent to the Public Health policy for Southern Sudan. You will be responsible for the implementation and completion of WASH training and capacity building plans; provide on the job mentoring and training to the WASH team to ensure that all public health emergency responses are in line with required standards. You will ensure that the existing monitoring and evaluation tools are utilised and updated where necessary and that lessons learnt are integrated into future programming. In addition, you will support the programme in compiling of weekly, monthly and other reports on EP&R public health activities.
What we are looking for
You will need to have sound understanding of public health engineering in emergencies as well as public health promotion techniques with education to Masters level with a recognised qualification in Public Health Engineering. You will have extensive experience in managing public health emergency responses preferably with experience in Southern Sudan. You must have good leadership skills with proven experience of working in a management position and ability to think and plan strategically. Just as important will be your knowledge of capacity building among other staff and partners, not to mention your diplomacy and excellent interpersonal skills.
