Vision, ambition and activities of FACT Foundation
FACT Foundation (Fuels from Agriculture in Communal Technology) is a knowledge and expertise center aimed at the development, application and dissemination of knowledge on biofuels and bioenergy. Our vision is that biofuels and bioenergy can offer an important contribution to the energy supply in developing countries. It creates opportunities for economic development through productive application of biofuels and bioenergy, thus contributing to the reduction of poverty and the improvement of living conditions. We have the ambition of being the knowledge centre on biofuels and bioenergy for local development.
From its vision and ambition, FACT Foundation develops and carries out a range of activities, including:
- Developing, stimulating and participating in a growing research program on the subjects of biofuels and bioenergy;
- Managing and supporting a program of demonstration projects in several developing countries on all continents;
- Supporting partners in developing countries with knowledge and knowhow on the production, conversion and use of biofuels and bioenergy.
In order to increase the capacity of its team, FACT Foundation is looking for a
Biofuels and Bioenergy Specialist
The Biofuels and Bioenergy Specialist will be charged with the following duties:
- Developing and managing a portfolio of innovative biofuel and bioenergy projects that are implemented by partners in developing countries;
- Carrying out consultancy assignments (studies, training courses, technical advice in implementation projects) on biofuels and bioenergy for various public and private clients;
- Preparing reports, technical manuals, videos and articles for the knowledge centre;
- Supervision of, and participating in, applied research into the conversion of biomass into energy carriers;
- Providing internal advice on bioenergy conversion (within FACT projects);
- Supervision of students and volunteers working with FACT Foundation.
Skills and qualifications
For this position, we are looking for a professional with a technical background and proven experience in the field of bioenergy, in a developing country context. Specific skills and qualifications:
- Academic background in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. MSc in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering);
- At least 5 years professional experience in the field of bioenergy and experience with working in developing countries;
- Fluent in English, both oral and written; knowledge of Dutch, French and/or Spanish is considered an advantage;
- Proven experience with the development of projects and the drafting of project proposals; experience with writing short (journalistic) articles is considered an advantage;
- Enthusiastic and highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills;
- Good understanding of commercial and socio-economic issues;
- Willing and able to go abroad for short assignments several times per year.
What we offer
What we offer is a position within a small, dynamic team of motivated professionals; a stimulating and yet informal environment with much room for initiative and personal development. The position is full-time (0.8-1.0 fte), initially for one year but with the prospect of a permanent position. Salary according to the Collective Agreement Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten), depending on age and experience. The office location is Wageningen.
