Position title: Program Manager, Conflict Prevention Management & Resolution (CPMR)
Position Grade: P4
Duty Station: Djibouti
Organizational Unit: Peace and Security Division
Under the general guidance of the Director of Peace and Security Division the Program Manager for Conflict Prevention Management & Resolution shall be responsible for CPMR activities, involve in policy development and harmonization, information sharing ;co-operation in the promotion of good neighborliness among Member States as a prerequisite for the development of Peace and Security in the region .he/she shall:
1. Facilitate and support the efforts of IGAD Policy Organs on conflict prevention, management and resolution;
2. In consultation with Member States, develop mechanisms for conflict prevention, management and resolution;
3. Provide assistance towards political dialogue among Member States;
4. Gather and share information among Member States on potential sources of conflict;
5. Liaise with IGAD Specialized Office on Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism; the Organization of African Union and other international organizations on conflict avoidance and mitigation;
6. Play an advocacy role with Member States to set up mechanisms for conflict resolution and their use thereof;
7. Formulate program and project proposals in the area of conflict prevention, management and resolution;
8. Assist the Director in following up the respective logframe objectives outlined in the various programs on a quarterly basis
9. Coordinate consultant’s work in the technical areas
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates must have:
- Masters degree in Political Science, law, social sciences, humanities, or Diplomacy
- At least ten years experience with regional or international organizations,
- Familiarity with diplomatic practices and of key issues in the relations between IGAD Member States is essential,
Key skills and competencies:
• Well developed decision making ability
• Demonstrated experience in the usage of computers and office software packages,
• Analytical and negotiation skills;
• Excellent drafting and report writing skill is required
Language requirements: Fluency in one of the working languages (English/French) is required. Proficiency in the other is an added advantage
Age: 30 to 50
Tenure of Appointment: The appointment is for five (5) years renewable subject to satisfactory Performance
REMUNERATION:
US $ 33,750 per annum plus other benefits
