COOPI operates in Malawi since 2001. MALEZA is a local NGO, already partner with COOPI in a number of environment and food security interventions. COOPI and MALEZA implemented various projects in the central region, funded by the EC and other donors. Cluny Wildlife Trust (CWT) has significant experience in Malawi and more specifically on Likoma Island in interacting with local communities, local authorities and local entrepreneurs on a regular basis.

Title of the project: Community Empowerment for Efficient Production Use and Access of Renewable and Sustainable Energy in Rural Area in Malawi
Funded by the EU
Starting date July 2011 – Duration 48 Months.
- Project Summary
The main objective of the proposed project is to contribute to the improvement of access to sustainable energy services in order to reduce climate change and improve the livelihood and school education of rural communities in Malawi. Specifically the project intends to increase access to modern, affordable and sustainable energy services for rural poor using four kinds of locally sources of renewable energy and promote efficient energy production, transformation and productive use. The project will be implemented in partnership with MALEZA and CWT (local NGOs) and FERA (private company). The project will target atleast 14,900 households that are not currently connected to grid electricity in Kasungu district, five schools and six communities and tourism association (LITA) at Likoma Island.

Responsibilities
Responsible to the implementation of the project Title of the project: Community Empowerment for Efficient Production Use and Access of Renewable and Sustainable Energy in Rural Area in Malawi
To be the Deputy program manager of the Entire Energy and Environment program that include the above mentioned project.
Support the Country Director to implement, update and design the appropriate strategy of Energy and Environment program
Identify, design and write project proposals
Project reporting
Team leader of the program EE – Energy and Environment
Lease with the partners
Participate to national and international workshop and seminars
Draws accurate schematic plans for renewable energy structures (PV solar system, Eolic system)
Any other assignment requested by the Country Director
Required qualification
Have a Degree / MSc qualification in one of the following: Engineer / Architecture / Economy with special focus on renewable energy construction or other relevant University qualification.
Strong capacity to summarize and proven experience to write proposal and reporting
At least 3 year experience in Development program in Africa in at least 2 countries.
Proficient in English and French or Portuguese
IT skyll
Practical Knowledge of GIS and Autocad is an advantage
Driving licence type B and possibly for Motorbikes
