AngloGold Ashanti Limited (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 21 operations in 10 countries on four continents and a highly successful exploration program. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine in WA and is a manager of the Tropicana Joint Venture with a 70% interest. Independence Group holds the remaining 30%. Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery for the last decade and in November 2010 was approved by both Boards. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life. Construction will begin in the June quarter of 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
Critical to the success of the Tropicana Gold Project is the appointment of a Construction Manager - Mechanical to play a key senior leadership role in the construction team. The Construction Manager is accountable for overseeing all site related activities performed by the EPCM contractors and ensuring that all results are in alignment with AGA, regulatory and contractual requirements.
The position is accountable to the Project Manager: Tropicana Gold Mine and has the following accountabilities:
- EPCM Contractor management throughout the construction phase;
- Ensure all site activities are conducted in a manner that prioritises safety and the environment including adherence to all site safety and environmental plans;
- Ensure all site construction is in accordance with the project engineering, design, and execution plan;
- Maintain all site construction project controls including QA/QC;
- Fulfil the position of Registered Manager for the Project under Mines Safety and Inspection Act (MSIA) as required;
- Ensure statutory compliance is maintained with all relevant legislation and regulations;
The successful candidate will possess the following key competencies:
- Demonstrated managerial and leadership experience;
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or equivalent;
- Experience in EPCM contractor management;
- Demonstrated experience in construction and contractor management, and technical competence in projects of similar scale and complexity;
- A thorough understanding of construction regulatory/statutory and professional standards in WA is required;
- Proven track record in project construction.
- A strong desire to succeed, with a demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
