Acacia Mining seeks to employ a Geologist based at Buzwagi Gold Mine in Tanzania. This role reports to the First Line Leader Geology and the role holder will be accountable to ensure that geology production, grade control and QAQC works are performed according to best practice to minimize ore loss/ dilution and to enhance smooth mining operations in a safe and cost effective manner.
This is a one (1) year fixed term contract role, with the work roster being fourteen (14) days on seven (7) days off.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensure that best practices are employed in grade control sampling to avoid sample contamination in the field and ore spotting to minimize ore loss/dilution.
• Monitor all ore blasts, transform and mark up digblocks to enhance smooth mining operations in a safe and cost effective manner.
• Ensure all drilled holes picked by survey are logged and interpreted on a daily basis to avoid backlogs.
• Liaise with the Mine Surveyors to facilitate optimal pit pick-ups and mark outs.
• Actively participate with the Grade Control Drilling and Mining Operators in conducting site preparations and mining activities.
• Ensure all types of Geological Samples are taken and submitted to the Laboratory according to the site QA/QC standards.
• Ensure all QAQC issues are sorted out immediately and remedial actions are taken to avoid reoccurrence.
• Map all exposed areas (walls and faces) in the pit without causing any interruption to operation and capture all mapped data immediately to ensure that the database is updated.
• Advise the Drill and Blast Engineers on findings that may affect blasting efficiencies and any geotechnical impacts on weekly basis.
• Plan blast monitors in ore zones and ensure each monitor hole is drilled for blast movement monitoring.
• Timely install and detect blast balls for transformation to avoid delays on operations.
• Ensure that Drill Patterns are available and that the Drill Hole Register and Drill Plans are updated daily.
• Ensure Sample Submission in a timely manner.
• Ensure reduction in ore loss/dilution and reduction in grade variation between predicted and milled head grade as well as Material Tracking.
• Train the Geological Technicians and Assistants.
• Contribute actively, think critically and support peers during daily and weekly production and planning meetings.
• Ensure that all safety incidents are reported and investigated according to procedure and on time.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualification Requirements:
• Tertiary Degree in Geology/ Geological Engineering
• Post graduate studies in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Mining Engineering will be and added advantage
• Must have Professional Membership/ Registration
Experience Requirements:
• A minimum of 2 - 5 years Mining and Exploration experience in a Geologist role, preferably in Open Cut Mining.
• Experience in managing Geology consumables and costs
• Possess current Light Vehicle Driver’s License.
Skills / Knowledge Requirements:
• Basic knowledge of Laboratory Assaying techniques.
