Social Development Specialist (2 positions)
Local Term Appointment (Three Years, renewable)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
The World Bank’s Africa Social and Conflict Unit, part of the Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience (SURR) Global Practice seeks to recruit two locally hired Social Development Specialists to be based in Kenya Country Office.
The Social Development Specialists will work under the supervision of the Practice Manager for the Africa Social Unit, based in Washington DC Office, working closely with the Social Development Specialists based in Kenya to provide guidance, mentoring and support teams across the Kenya portfolio.
(1) JOB# 160431 - Social Development Specialist (Citizen Engagement, Community-Driven Development)
The Social Development Specialist will work on cross-cutting social development issues with a major focus on social accountability and citizen engagement in devolution.
S/he will be expected to contribute to the development of an innovative social development work program on issues of social accountability and citizen engagement in Kenya’s devolution, especially with respect to understanding and addressing issues and impacts related to social inclusion, gender and support for marginal counties and provide high quality operational support on citizen engagement, social accountability, and social inclusion, at project identification, preparation and supervision phases to various Bank units with operations within the Kenya Country Management Unit.
2) JOB# 160435 - Social Development Specialist (Decentralization and Inclusion, Conflict Prevention, Climate Resilience)
The Social Development Specialist will support integration of social inclusion, conflict prevention, climate change, and youth considerations in the Bank’s devolution support, including stand-alone analytical work and technical assistance, but increasingly focused on integrating these considerations in new and ongoing International Development Association (IDA) operations related to decentralization, community-driven development, and devolved service delivery.
Selection Criteria and Electronic Applications:
The successful candidates should hold a Master’s degree with at least five years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related social.
S/he should demonstrate skills and direct work experience with at least one or more of the following: public consultations; participatory budgeting; participatory rural and urban appraisal; participatory research methods (including observation, surveys); participatory poverty assessments; participatory monitoring and evaluation; and grievance redress mechanisms.
