Internship, Engineering, Rome, Italy

The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position with WFP Engineering. The position will be based at WFP's Headquarters in Rome, Italy. WFP Engineering provides engineering assistance to a host of different activities including those of civil, mechanical, electrical and engineering and project management for WFP projects worldwide. The Internship will be for a period of 3 months minimum, starting from October 2015, depending on candidate availability.

Description

Under the general supervision of the Chief Engineer, WFP Engineering for all project matters, the intern may be tasked with any of the following list of duties.

All tasks shall be under the direct supervision of a professionally accredited

Project Engineer within WFP Engineering

• Undertake designs of basic project elements;
• Undertake project administration tasks, supporting the team in preparing construction contracts, documents, and design packages;
• Prepare reports on projects and team initiatives;
• Develop project tools. The team is involved in a number of specialist engineering functions. A number of these tasks are repetitive and development of a tool in Excel or the likes would benefit the team;
• Undertake research into areas of interest to the team, including eco-friendly 'green' technologies;
• Assist the team with its project quality assurance procedures;
• Assist the team with the Field Engineering website, writing and editing articles if necessary;
• Assist the project team with any other tasks as assigned by the Chief Engineer.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience

• Experience of working in an engineering environment;
• Experience of using AutoCAD and other engineering software;
• Qualification/experience in construction and health and safety matters;
• Knowledge of public procurement procedures;
• Experience of working in the humanitarian community.

Desirable Software Skills

• Computer literate;
• Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project;
• Candidates shall have a good level of skill in using AutoCAD;

Languages

• Fluent in English;
• Knowledge of French, Arabic or Spanish is highly desirable. Essential Requirements
• Currently enrolled or have recently graduated from a Bachelors/Master's Degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical engineering;
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study; Have attended courses in the last 12 months;
• Written and oral proficiency in English.

Terms and Conditions

• Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP, up to the amount of US$700 per month depending on the duty station.
• WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from WFP internship location, necessary visas and costs related.
