Communication and Outreach Specialist - ACDI/VOCA Nafaka Project

International Organization seeks a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as Outreach and Communication Specialist. Base in Dar es Salaam, Outreach and Communication plays the key internal and external communication roles on the projects.

S/he will be conduct research and prepare written document that convey project messages, activities and result to foreign and Tanzanian publics.

Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the resident communications lead for NAFAKA in Tanzania
• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan for the project;
• Lead and manage the delivery of internal and external communications
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and the donor to develop and report on activities that highlight and explain project’s successes and contributions to public institutions, target audiences, stakeholders, and partners
• Compile, draft and format information for specific publications and media
• Design and maintain the project’s web site
• Support use of video and new media to promote NAFAKA
• Interface with project staff to gather information; may also require visiting project sites and interviewing project beneficiaries when possible
• Provide guidance on branding requirements for the project

Qualifications and Experience

• A background in journalism, media or public relations preferred
• At least 5 years of communications and outreach experience obtained in a national or high-profile organization where they were responsible for devising, formulating and implementing communications strategies and work plans; experience on international development projects preferred.
• Experience preparing program materials for USAID projects preferred,
• Demonstrated understanding of USAID branding requirements for contracts.
• Excellent writing skills and oral communication skills
• Must be able to design, draft and finalize communications products under tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other media creation/editing programs
• Experience designing and formatting newsletters and brochures
• Complete fluency in oral and written Kiswahili and English
