The Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, not-for-profit, international University first established in 1983, with 13 teaching sites in 8 countries. It is a non-denominational institution open to all, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender or national origin. Since 2001, AKU has offered academic programmes in nursing, medicine and education for and in countries in East Africa.
The University is seeking applications for the following position based in Arusha Tanzania:
Reporting to the AKU - TIHE, Senior Manager Finance, He will be responsible for monitoring and performing the functions of the Finance Department in Arusha and ensuring legal compliance on financial matters. He will also be responsible for preparation and assist in the annual statutory audit exercise for AKU-TIHE for Arusha. He will be responsible for the preparation and monitoring of the annual budgets, long term projections, grants, programme based costing, ensuring that strong financial controls are in place and are adhered to across. He will as required from time to time be advising senior management on various operational and strategic decisions. The role will also include working closely with Arusha Medical Centre, Real Estate Department, Multilateral & Bilateral Relationship Department.
The key tasks will include the following.
Managing financial, physical and human resources of the AKU-TIHE Finance Department.
Monitoring and supervising all AKU-TIHE revenue and expenditure to ensure compliance with institutional policies and legislation.
Developing and monitoring of customized financial reports to inform decision making processes.
Implementing and strengthening strong financial controls across all areas of the AKU-TIHE.
Monitoring corporate affairs of AKU-TIHE as per the local legal requirements (TRA and BRELA).
Assisting Programme Heads in making sound financial decisions by providing costing and feasibility analysis for ongoing and new academic programs and research proposals and by providing guidance on the financial requirements for granting agencies.
Participating proactively in the committees of the various programmes of AKU-TIHE.
Coordinating technical developments to advance financial systems development.
Regular reporting of results for the Medical Centre and the AKU-TIHE Arusha operations .
Planning, preparing and monitoring annual budgets, monthly cash flows and funding requests for all 'academic programmes of AKU-TIHE
Candidates should have:
A Master's degree in Finance or related field
Membership of a professional accounting body - CPA, ACCA or equivalent.
A minimum of 5 years' experience working in financial management that includes developing Istrong financial systems and control mechanisms.
Experience working with International Accounting Standards and Academic institution.
Highly developed computing skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrated working in a multinational multi-faceted team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work with university senior management, in planning, developing and implementing innovative and cost-effective strategies.
Fluency in Kiswahili will be an advantage
