Summary
Reporting to the Managing Director of TUSONGE, and in close consultation with Equitas, the National Coordinator leads the coordination and management of the Global Human Rights Education Project in Tanzania which is part of Equitas’ Global Human Rights Education Project. Among other responsibilities, the Coordinator ensures:

• Coordination with the various partners involved in the project (nation and local steering committees, activity participants, local leaders and communities)
• Sound administrative and financial management of the project
• Coordination of the timely implementation of project activities
• Monitoring and evaluation of and reporting on activities implemented
• Timely sharing of the emerging issues related to the project to both the TUSONGE Director and the Equitas representative
• Strategic networking and sharing with established, likeminded organizations and other actors for horizontal learning purposes
• Sound administrative and financial management of the project

• Monitoring and evaluation of and reporting on activities implemented
• Timely sharing of the emerging issues related to the project to both the TUSONGE Director and the Equitas representative

The National Coordinator will be based in the offices of TUSONGE and also working in close collaboration with Equitas International Centre for Human Rights Education (Canada) as well as the TUSONGE team. The project will be initially implemented in the communities of Msaranga, Ivaenyi and Biriri with a view to developing the project in at least one other community in the Kilimanjaro region, as well as other communities in Tanzania where Equitas alumni are active.
The project aims to build safer and more equitable communities where key actors, including children and youth are participating and taking leadership in promoting democracy and greater respect for human rights.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the day-to-day supervision of the Managing Director of TUSONGEand in close collaboration with other TUSONGE staff members, the National Coordinator shall be responsible, but not limited to the following duties:

1. Strategic Development of the Program (15% of time)
a) Collaborate with TUSONGE in the development of the project plan and the annual budgets of the project.
b) Contribute to the identification of human rights education training needs and the identification of organizations and key actors who can contribute to or benefit from the program
c) Contribute to building and strengthening a solid network:
• Liaising with potential partners, development organizations, government officials, UN personnel, NGOs and associations, community leaders and other allies and key human rights stakeholders; attending relevant conferences and coordination meetings
a) Collaborate with TUSONGE in the development of the project plan and the annual budgets of the project.

2. Program Planning, Implementation and Coordination (35% of time)
Support the development and implementation of the project including:

• Under the supervision of TUSONGE and Equitas, coordinate the planning, implementation and evaluation of local activities
• Identify human rights challenges which face youth and Children and communicate effectively with the group to seek solutions and advices;

• Participate and/or coordinate timely delivery of all planned activities, including training sessions, needs validation processes, mobilization campaigns, communications activities, planning and evaluation meetings;
• Conduct community field visits and provide coaching to facilitators, partners and participants of the training programs;
• Contribute to transparency and good management of the project, for example in the selection of participants, financial management and timely reporting.
• Participate and/or coordinate timely delivery of all planned activities, including training sessions, needs validation processes, mobilization campaigns, communications activities, planning and evaluation meetings;
• Conduct community field visits and provide coaching to facilitators, partners and participants of the training programs;

c) Project monitoring and evaluation:
• Support TUSONGE and Equitas in the development and implementation of evaluation activities and reporting, including data collection and analysis;
• Identify lessons learnt and contribute to the sharing of knowledge in order to ensure effective and improvements in the implementation of the project.

3. Program Administration and Financial Management (30% of time)
In collaboration and in consultation with TUSONGE and Equitas:
a) Establish and ensure effective, efficient management of the project which will comply with existing organization policies,
b) Contribute to budget development and financial monitoring of national and community activities, and identify adjustments as required to share with TUSONGE/Equitas for decisions;
c) Contribute to the production of timely reports (narrative and financial) including collection, analysis and interpretation of evaluation data which will support sound management decisions;
d) Manage internal and external communications related to project activities, including official correspondence and the daily management of emails;
e) Translate relevant documents and letters from English to Swahili and vice versa.

5. Resource Mobilisation (15% of time)
a) Identify financial needs of the project and potential financial partners;
b) Establish and maintain good relationships with existing funders and explore new funding opportunities by setting-up meetings and creative funding strategies to sustain the project initiatives on the ground;
c) Lead development of new program proposals in collaboration with close support from TUSONGE and Equitas.

Qualifications
1. Skills and Experience
• Three (3) years of work experience in project management, monitoring, and institutional building in the areas of youth and children’s rights in Tanzania;
• University degree in administration, law, social or political science, education or other relevant field. A Master’s degree is an additional advantage;
• Experience working with civil society organizations, the government, the UN, and/or networks engaged in development and social justice work in Tanzania;
• Excellent planning, coordination, writing, financial management and organizational and strategic management skills;
• Possess strong interpersonal skills: team work, tact, diplomacy and discretion;
• Excellent command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint;

• Availability to work flexible and long hours during the implementation of program activities

The National Coordinator will work in TUSONGE’s office in Moshi and will be subject to the policies and procedures of the organization. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position for an initial probation period of 3 months. There will be a performance evaluation after 3 months with the possibility of renewing the contract for the full length of the project.
