AmeriCares seeks to engage a (project consultant) fulltime field-based HWS Project Manager to facilitate the implementation of the Health Workforce Safety (HWS) Program scale-out at three hospital sites in Tanzania’s Lake Zone, over the course of 3 years. The incumbent will be responsible for the direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects, ensuring consistency with project strategy, commitments and goals.
Consultant will be based in Mwanza and split their time between the three site locations and Dar es-Salaam.
Program Background
Health workers are a hospital’s most important asset and an indispensable resource worldwide. However, as they work each day to save lives and care for patients, health workers are at great risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens and life-threatening infections such as Hepatitis B and C, HIV and tetanus. Needle sticks and occupational exposure to hazardous waste, chemicals and infections through contact with blood and bodily fluids pose ongoing threats to health worker safety. In 2012 AmeriCares and Bugando Medical Centre (BMC) completed a three-year pilot project to develop a center of excellence in health workforce safety at Bugando Medical Centre. With the success of that pilot, AmeriCares and Bugando will replicate the project at three additional sites in the Lake Zone: Musoma Regional Hospital in Mara Region, Sengerema Designated District Hospital in Mwanza Province and Shinyanga Regiional Hospital in Shinyanga.
