The Arusha Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (AUWSA) is a legally established entity responsible for the overall operations and management of water supply and sewerage services in Arusha City. It is among of the best Authorities in Tanzania.
The core function of the Authority is to deliver excellent water supply and sewerage services for all categories of customers and stakeholders in Arusha City.
In order to attain its vision and mission, AUWSA is seeking to recruit dynamic, experienced, competent and qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacant posts within the Authority’s establishment.
1.0 SENIOR WATER ENGINEER: (1 Vacant Post)
1.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
1.2 Reports To: Technical Manager.
1.3 Required Qualifications and Experience:
The successful applicant must be / have:
- A holder of Bachelor of Science Degree /Advanced Diploma in Civil/Sanitary/ Environmental Engineering from a recognized Higher Learning Institution.
- Must be registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania as a Professional Engineer.
- Minimum of three years working experience as an Engineer in the Water Sector.
- A strong IT knowledge including AutoCAD or any other engineering application software.
1.4 Employment Terms: Three years Contract - Renewable upon satisfactorily performance.
1.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
(i) Head of Section responsible for sectional administrative issues on day-to-day basis.
(ii) Carrying out all designs, management, development, maintenance and rehabilitation of water network infrastructures.
(iii) Maintains proper records of water network inventory and monitors all factors affecting the network.
(iv) Liaison with Customer Service Section in handling customer complaints relating to water supply.
(v) Carry out the function of increasing AUWSA’s customer base by implementing New Water Connections.
(vi) Carry out studies for water losses and recommend the corrective measures to solve the problems.
(vii) Keeping record of daily major and minor breakdowns of water distribution system and cause for prompt repair of the same.
(viii) Responsible for curbing technical losses of water through leakages, breakages, system overflows etc.
(ix) Responsible for curbing Non Revenue Water (NRW) scientifically.
(x) Periodically carry out flushing of water infrastructures.
(xi) Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Technical Manager.
2.0 PROJECT ENGINEER: (1 Vacant Post)
2.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
2.2 Reports To: Technical Manager.
2.3 Required Qualifications and Experience:
The successful applicant must be/have:
- A holder of Bachelor of Science Degree /Advanced Diploma in Civil/Sanitary/ Environmental Engineering from a recognized Higher Learning Institution.
- Must be registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania as a Professional Engineer.
- Minimum of three years working experience as an Engineer in the Water Sector.
- A strong IT knowledge including AutoCAD or any other engineering application software.
2.4 Employment Terms: Two years Contract - Renewable upon satisfactorily performance.
2.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
(i) Assist the project to acquire accurate base maps.
(ii) Review and update existing GIS data
(iii) Discuss/agree with management on GIS applications and develop them
(iv) Carrying out survey to identify the existing water network, valves and tapping points of customers.
(v) Map all the customers.
(vi) Ensure compliance/linkage of different applications.
(vii) Communicate/coordinate with other GIS users in Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WSSA) or in other fields.
(viii) Maintains proper records of all AUWSA customers with their respective category.
(ix) Liaising with the GIS Expert on effective mechanisms to maintain GIS application in AUWSA.
(x) Train AUWSA staff on GIS applications.
(xi) Liaison with Customer Service Department on all issues relating to customers status.
(xii) Advise on the areas of water and sewerage network for improvement.
(xiii) Establish District Metering Areas.
(xiv) Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Technical Manager.
3.0 GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) EXPERT: (1 Vacant Post)
3.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
3.2 Reports To: Technical Manager.
3.3 Required Qualifications and Experience:
The successful applicant must be/have:
- A holder of Degree or Advanced Diploma in Land Surveying/Planning/Information Technology/Geography with emphasis in GIS or should have pursued a Certificate or Diploma program in GIS.
- GIS concepts and analytical techniques, including computerized mapping and digital data conversion, manipulation and analysis.
- Knowledge of GIS software tools and applications including but not limited to ArcGIS, AutoCAD suite and applications of MS Office Suite.
- Minimum of three years working experience in a reputable organization.
3.3 Employment Terms: Two years Contract - Renewable upon satisfactorily performance.
3.4 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
(i) Survey and create water network maps using GIS software and related equipment.
(ii) Survey and create sewerage network maps using GIS software and related equipment.
(iii) Survey, collect and locate customers’ information in the map using GIS software.
(iv) Compile geographical data from a variety of sources including survey, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
(v) Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
(vi) Operate and maintain GIS system hardware, software, plotter, digitizer, GPS, video camera and other project facilities.
(vii) Ensure compliance/linkage of different applications.
(viii) Communicate/coordinate with other GIS users in water supply and sewerage system or in other fields.
(ix) Train AUWSA staff on GIS applications.
(x) Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Technical Manager.
