Malaria Consortium is one of the world's leading non-profit organisations dedicated to the comprehensive control of malaria and other communicable diseases in Africa and Southeast Asia. Malaria Consortium works with communities, government and non-government agencies, academic institutions, and local and international organisations, to ensure good evidence supports delivery of effective services, providing technical support for monitoring and evaluation of programmes and activities for evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning. The organisation works to improve not only the health of the individual, but also the capacity of national health systems, which helps relieve poverty and support improved economic prosperity.
Malaria Consortium has its main office in Juba and a sub office in Aweil, Northern Bar el Ghazel. We have additional programs in Central Equitoria that are run out from the Juba office through frequent travel to Yei. In the FY2012, South Sudan had an annual programme value of approximately £2M and employed approximately 100 staff. Its major programme areas include iCCM, nutrition for children under 5’s, health systems strengthening and LLIN distribution. It is expected that the programme will expand into work in neglected tropical diseases in the near future.
The Country Director is responsible for providing strategic, programmatic, fundraising, financial and management support to ensure the success of the Malaria Consortium South Sudan programme.
The successful candidate will:
• Postgraduate degree in international health or relevant discipline • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English • Extensive work experience as a manager, project director or team leader in international health in developing countries, preferably in Africa • Extensive experience in human resource management and supervision • Experience managing security in a complex environment • Extensive experience in financial management and budgeting
• Understanding of donor requirements, including DFID and USAID • Proven track record in resource mobilisation/business development • Creativity, with experience funding activities in ways that both cover costs and generate operating margins • Willingness to undertake travel at short notice. • Ability to work effectively and sensitively in developing countries. • A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality.
