Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Examinations, the Deputy Head of Examinations and Assessment is to focus on the delivery of examinations and services. This involves taking direction from the Head on strategy and applying it to various college and inter-collegiate examinations. The Deputy Head line manages those elements of the Unit as directed by the Head. The Deputy must have the requisite leadership ability and possess a grasp of the key issues of the Unit in order to stand-in for the Head during absence or leave.
- Stand-in for the Head when they are on leave or absent for other reasons.
- Responsible for the operational delivery of all examinations as directed by the Head.
- Confirming examination plans meet College aims and objectives including budgetary, resource and personnel needs.
- To lead on planning and delivery of a specific examinations portfolio as agreed with the Head, including overseas and elsewhere in the UK where applicable.
- Be the staff lead on Boards of Examiners in collaboration with Head of Unit, examination directors, taking forward actions and outputs as directed.
- Ensure quality of examination delivery.
- Liaise and represent College on selected inter-collegiate examinations bodies as directed by the Head.
- Line-manage elements of staff, as specified by the Head.
- Coordinate activities with the College Marketing and Business Development lead on the marketing of College examinations.
- Responsible for overall management of the College Question Bank and IT provision.
- Liaise with the College International Coordinator on international examinations in order to assist in College international development.

Decision-Making
Decision-making will be a key area of the post, referring and reporting to the unit Head as appropriate.
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Set Required
The post-holder will require the following:
- Qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline.
- Excellent inter-personal and team working skills.
- Ability to produce innovative, evidence based solutions.
- Excellent communication including strong written skills.
- Strong negotiating skills and the ability to influence decision makers at all levels.
- Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
- Ability to facilitate own ideas and those of others.
- A sound knowledge of IT systems and database-management.
- Strong planning ability.
- Very significant attention to detail.
Job Context and Special Features
- Additional hours need to be worked in accordance with business requirements.
- The post holder will be required to travel within the UK and overseas. Venues for external meetings rotate around (mainly) London, Edinburgh, Dublin and Glasgow, many involving overnight stays. Meetings may require attendance in the evening.
- Examination activities may involve c 4 weeks in external and sometimes overseas locations. Awareness of and sensitivity to local political and cultural issues in overseas locations are required.
