Build and shape a vision for student life Chartered in 1983, Aga Khan University (AKU) is a world-renowned progressive organization that is committed to excellence in education, research, and community service. Occupying a central place in the Aga Khan Development Network, AKU provides higher education and world-class research in nursing, medicine, and education development and now operates in 10 campuses and teaching sites across Asia, Africa, and the United Kingdom. In fulfillment of its charter, the University—over the last decade—has begun an ambitious program of international expansion with a particular focus on development and growth in East Africa. With the establishment of the Advanced Nursing Programme, Aga Khan University Hospital-Nairobi, Postgraduate Medical Education Programme, Institute for Education Development, and recently, the Faculties of Health Science and Arts and Sciences, AKU aims to serve the whole of East Africa, encouraging and contributing to regional integration. Responsibilities |
Reporting to the Vice Provost, the inaugural Dean, Student Life will build and shape a student service function focused on enhancing the overall quality of the student experience at AKU-EA to support the academic mission of the University. Initially responsible for Nursing and Medical students in Nairobi, you will eventually assume responsibility for student life in the new Faculty of Arts and Sciences to be relocated to Arusha, Tanzania, in 2016. The Dean will also have the exciting opportunity to influence and help build a new campus from inception. Initially, the Dean will be based in modern-day Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, is a bustling city, cosmopolitan, lively, interesting and pleasantly landscaped. Its central business district is handily compact and it's a great place to tune into modern urban African life. Today it's the largest city between Cairo and Johannesburg. |
Requirements |
The successful candidate must have a proven track record providing leadership to student services, program development and community building within a recognized university with a residential campus. Experience with a culturally diverse, international student body is preferred. |
