Process Foreman
Buzwagi Mine in Tanzania is searching for an experienced person for the Process Plant to actively lead training and succession planning of the Process Operations Team to ensure that Barrick achieves development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability. Reporting to the Process Operations Superintendent, the appointee will develop and implement safe working procedures and other operational procedures and actively train the Operations Team on these procedures in readiness for commissioning and operation of the Buzwagi Process Plant. It will be also be expected of the incumbent to lead the Operations Team during optimisation of Process Plant.
Applicants must be Trade qualified in the mechanical or electrical disciplines and have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in process plant operations and gold production, including experience in gravity recovery, base metals flotation and CIL, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees in a developing country is essential, whilst previous commissioning experience would be advantageous.

We seek a dedicated, self-motivated and highly organised Engineering Manager to lead and provide technical, commercial, strategic governance/management, control and integration for the whole engineering team. The incumbent will ensure budgeted results are achieved and that engineering initiatives and activities are aligned to legal and business requirements. In addition, the appointee will ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all related mine facilities and equipment and ensure the implementation of an extensive and ongoing training and development plan to ensure the needs and objectives of the mine and greater company are achieved. This role reports to the General Manager and he/she will be a key member in the BGM Senior Leadership Team to ensure that targets for resources exploitation, capital management, cost control, safe working, employee development, environmental management and corporate governance are achieved.
Candidates must be in possession of a tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognised university and a minimum of 10 years’ relevant work experience. A Government Certificate of Competence as Engineer (mines and works) would be advantageous, whilst a Management/Leadership qualification comes highly regarded. Detailed knowledge of managing an engineering function on a large mine, including supervisory, technical, operational, financial and safety knowledge is essential, along with detailed underground mining experience, with special reference to mechanised manual and automated Ore Winding fixed plant. Significant experience in dealing with all aspects of the engineering function (from inbound to outbound logistics), the financial aspects of engineering and in dealing with a unionised environment completes the profile. This position is on a fly in/fly out rotation of 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off.
Process Plant Production Superintendent
Reporting to the Process Manager, the incumbent will work on a 6/3-week FIFO roster and provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards. Further duties include leading the Buzwagi Operations Team Development and Operation to ensure agreed targets are achieved (within corporate safety and environmental guidelines), managing activities of the Operations Team to assure cost-effective and high-quality metal recovery activities and optimising the Company’s financial status. Achieving safe and optimum production efficiency will also fall to the incumbent.
A B Chemical, Mineral Processing or Metallurgical Engineering, BSc Metallurgy or similar and a minimum of 15 years’ progressive experience in a variety of process operations and gold production, including experience with gravity recovery, base metals flotation, CIL, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, are the minimum requirements for this position. This must be supported by experience in operations and project development in a developing country environment and systematic coaching and training of employees in a developing country. Demonstrated skills in capital justification, budget development, expenditure and controls as well as an awareness of culture, business environment and infrastructure issues is essential, whilst previous commissioning experience would be advantageous.
