Job Summary: The Nutrition Program Officer will report directly to the Senior Nutrition Coordinator, and be an integral part of the development and implementation of the Nutrition Team work plan and activities. He/she is responsible for providing advocacy and technical support for the department in the areas of micronutrients, with a strong focus on vitamin A supplementation. He/She will collaborate with Tanzania Food & Nutrition Center (TFNC), Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW), US Agency for International Development (USAID), UNICEF, Tanzania Marketing & Communication (T-MARC), Monsanto, Jhpiego-Access, POUZn and the HKI nutrition team and all other HKI staff.
MAJOR TASKS AND ACTIVITIES:
- Work with the nutrition unit team to ensure effective program implementation.
- Assist the nutrition team in writing donor reports and developing work plans.
- Help plan, budget and run zonal, regional and district advocacy workshops in close collaboration with other members of the nutrition team and government partners.
- Spearhead assigned activities on specific nutrition efforts including oversight of projects on biofortification and the prevention of maternal anemia.
- Assist with data collection, analysis and dissemination of HKI-conducted surveys and assessments.
- Work with partners to advocate for interventions to reduce micronutrient related malnutrition in Tanzania.
- Represent the HKI Nutrition Team in workshops and meetings.
- Monitor and help seek new funding opportunities in nutrition in collaboration with the nutrition team.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Master's degree in the field of nutrition or public health with at least 4-5 years experience.
- Knowledge and experience with vitamin A supplementation, anemia or biofortification an advantage.
- Experience drafting professional documents, communications, reports and proposals is essential
- Ability to work effectively with communities, government and NGO partners.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Kiswahili and English.
- Ability to organize, run and manage funds for large workshops.
- Willingness to travel for long periods of time outside of Dar es Salaam.
- General PC proficiency and strong skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as the willingness and ability to learn MS Access and other software programs as necessary.
- Able to work methodically, accurately and neatly.

Terms of Employment: One year contract renewal upon mutual agreement.
