Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF)

This is an opportunity for qualified staff to support the Ministry in its work of following the policy priorities of the State of Qatar. This is a real prospect for people with a background in economics or a closely related subject such as business, finance, accounting, public administration, or statistics, to support the Ministry in developing this new area of policy-related activity. The MOEF is seeking to fill the following key positions:

Economists: Macroeconomic and Fiscal Policy Department

MOEF is in the process of setting up and instituting a new Macroeconomic and Fiscal Policy Department. This new Department will undertake economic analysis and provide advice to the Minister on those areas of policy that are under the responsibility of the Ministry as well as the development of an annual Medium term Fiscal Framework for the economy of Qatar.

As a part of the initiative, the Ministry intends to appoint up to four suitably qualified economists. Interested persons who hold a PhD or a good Master’s degree in economics (alternatively mathematics or statistics) with an emphasis on quantitative aspects of the core discipline are invited to apply. An interest in and some familiarity of the economies of the Middle Eastern region would be helpful although not essential. Although candidates of any nationality are welcome to apply, knowledge of Arabic will be an advantage.

Desired background

  • Knowledge of macroeconomic modeling
  • Knowledge of basic economics / statistics / econometrics / data manipulation and modeling and forecasting techniques.
  • Understanding of government operations.
  • Ability to write and draft policy issues and recommendations.
  • Master’s degree or higher in economics, mathematics or statistics.
  • Basic computer skills.
