This is an exciting opportunity to join the fight against poverty in a global advocacy role. Reporting to the head of advocacy, your main role will be develop and implement the ‘valuing health workers’ international advocacy strategy. The team support country-based staff to carry out national advocacy initiatives and build capacity for national advocacy. As well as the three Corporate Advocacy campaigns (HIV, Education and Health) the team are also currently planning a global campaign on gender. We also support other teams to advocate on issues such as Volunteering and Climate Change.
Working closely with the rest of the team you will:
- Progress the VSO corporate advocacy strategy ‘Valuing Health Workers’ (VHW). This aims to encourage governments and major international institutions to improve the number and quality of Health Workers.
- Support the efforts of VSO country programmes to contribute to VHW and help build the capacity of VSO programme staff
- Develop VSO outreach to key multilateral institutions and agencies where we can influence development policies.
- Develop the gender analysis and engagement of our work on Health Workers in such a way as to build linkages between VHW and the new gender equality campaign
- Support Programme Offices and VSO federation members to carry out advocacy in their countries.
Be experienced in advocacy and lobbying.
- The ability to think and act strategically and prioritise carefully.
- Excellent all-round communications skills.
- Preferably have advocacy experience in Health, but will also have the flexibility to cover other themes if necessary.
- Have a knowledge of multilateral and regional institutions and agencies.
- Skills in training, facilitation, Capacity Analysis and capacity building for advocacy.
