Organizational Setting |
The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in: improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing indigenous capabilities around the world for national energy planning; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors. The operating environment is dynamic, participative and interactive with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community. The Knowledge Management Unit is located in INIS and Nuclear Knowledge Management Section in the Department of Nuclear Energy and is responsible for implementing the IAEA's subprogrammes 1.3.3 on "Nuclear Knowledge Management". The objectives of the subprogramme are to increase awareness and understanding in Member States of the need to sustain knowledge and expertise in nuclear science and technology and effectively serve the knowledge management needs of Member States. |
Main purpose |
As part of a team led by the Head of the Nuclear Knowledge Management Unit, the Knowledge Management Specialist provides guidance and inputs to the formulation, development and implementation of the IAEA's activities in nuclear knowledge management, ensuring synergies and cooperation with other IAEA programmes, based on best practices and knowledge obtained through new partnerships and networks. |
Role |
The Knowledge Management Specialist is: (1) a technical specialist, participating, through the regular and technical cooperation programmes, in knowledge management activities such as workshops, seminars and knowledge assistance visits; (2) a team member, working collaboratively on studies and analysis of knowledge management maturity and participating in projects and missions to Member States; and (3) a scientific secretary for specialists meetings, documents development and technical cooperation activities. |
Partnerships |
The Knowledge Management Specialist works closely with the staff of the Nuclear Knowledge Management Unit and other staff of the Department of Nuclear Energy. He/she participates in meetings with Member State organizations and their staff in order to identify the needs and interests of Member States in the area of nuclear knowledge management. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $56 018 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $36 524*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
