HR SUPERINTENDENT – PROJECTS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu mine seeks to employ an experienced HR Superintendent – Projects and Information Systems. The incumbent will administer the human resource procurement, development, maintenance and separation activities to ensure the needs of BGML, its management and employees are met in the most cost- effective manner and contribute to the timely and effective implementation of HR projects and compensation and benefits policies.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Administration of the compensation and benefits scheme such that internal equity and external competitiveness are safeguarded
• Provision of effective on the job training and coaching to ensure less experienced staff in HR gain new skills and knowledge and achieve their maximum potential.
• Provision of leadership necessary to ensure that employees and contractors, within assigned functional area, adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry standards and any applicable legislation.
• Facilitates the initiation, design and implementation of HR projects as need arises
• Provides guidance to supervisors in carrying out job analyses and developing job descriptions
• Assists with job evaluations and grading as required from time to time
• Assists the HR Manager in the development and consolidation of HR plans and budgets
• Coordinates proper administration of workmen’s compensation benefits, the medical scheme and other benefits
• Keeps track of the HR filing system and takes corrective action whenever there is an indication that the system does not meet with the requirements of the department
• Maintains personnel inventories for the entire company
• Periodically runs macros and database queries to facilitate the production of regular reports on staff
• Reports on any exceptions to compliance (SOX, the law, etc.)
• Ensures registration of employees into superannuation schemes such as NSSF, PPF, and registration of employees and their dependants into medical schemes administered by designated medical service providers
• Provides assistance to his/her superiors in interpreting and implementing the HR policies relating to compensation and benefits
• Ensures that employees understand the company’s compensation and benefits policies, through explaining such policies at toolbox meetings.
• Deals with routine employee grievances related to compensation and benefits
• Develops, maintains, and periodically reviews the HR records and reporting system, complete with the type of HR records to be maintained, and the periodic HR reports to be generated
• HR records management system is effective, employee data is easily retrievable and readily available at a moments notice,
• Prepares relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on assigned unit
• Supervises subordinates, appraises their performance, and facilitates the reward of good performers accordingly
• Ensures on the job training and coaching to less experienced personnel so as to enable them to perform their duties
• Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time
• Ensures that Expats payroll is completed on time and any shortfalls are attended to
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• Masters Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Business, Commerce or Social Sciences
Experience Requirements:
• 5 to10 years post graduate experience in the private sector (preferably mining).
• Experience in management of employee compensation and benefits schemes.
• Experience in job evaluation and grading methodologies
• Demonstrated experience in developing policies and procedures and promoting acceptance.
• Experience in the management of projects
