The role is essentially strategic and through effective leadership the successful person will be required to implement strategic initiatives and ensure the delivery of agreed outcomes via Barrick Corporate Social Responsibility Charter and Community Engagement and Sustainable Development.
The CSR Director will be responsible for developing, directing and implementing sustainable solutions to facilitate development of supportive framework conditions for corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
The incumbent will lead all compliance, public and governmental interface on CSR issues for African Barrick Gold. In addition, there will be extensive interface with site operations management, executive management, outside consultants, government and regulatory agencies.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Develop and implement a CSR business plan, which should flow from the CSR strategy and commitments.
• Determine the resources and activities required to carry out the CSR strategy and commitments.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the vision and plan satisfies the needs of all departments within African Barrick Gold and Corporate
• Direct, implement, and oversee new and existing corporate and ABG CSR policies in ensuring both compliance and alignment of all site action plans with those policies.
• Provide leadership by example and, as a mentor, facilitate the development, expertise, and effectiveness of the company CSR staff
• Serve as internal resource and external representative on CSR issues
• Benchmark industry best practices
• Develop and maintain a clear and open line of communication between CSR and operations personnel at mine sites regarding CSR issues and actions
• Provide Corporate Social Responsibility expertise to executives and management, enhancing awareness of CSR issues likely to impact/impacting on the organization
• Representing African Barrick Gold to both the mining industry and the general public in promoting the positive image of the company
• Liaise with other business units and corporate staff to lead, introduce and lead improvements to CSR performance
• Provide overall leadership and direction to ensure compliance with local laws/regulations and in particular the Mining Act 2010 and the Mining Development Agreements as relate to CSR.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• A bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences; an advanced degree is preferred.
Experience Requirements:
• A significant depth of experience at a Senior Management level with cross-functional, cross-disciplinary project management and business analysis experience or equivalent combination of
education and experience
• Successful CSR work with state and federal/national regulatory agencies or multinational resource business is required. Involvement with developing, installing and maintain ESR management systems is important.
