The Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) is a Parastatal Organisation under the Ministry of Works, transport and Communication. The Institute is established by the Act of Parliament No.22 of 1991 as a specialized Institution to provide Maritime Education and Training with the aim to center for manpower needs.
DMI is fully accredited by Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA) to offer education and training in accordance with the international Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 as amended. DMI is also accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and is recognized by East African Cooperation (EAC) as a Center of Excellence for Maritime Education and Training in East Africa Region.

Secretary II
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Types all general correspondence and non-confidential matters.
ii. Types letters, minutes, notes, bulletin, circulars, certificates, charts and stencils.
iii. Duplicates reports, letters etc.
iv. Takes proper care of all machines under his charge and makes sure that they are used for official work only. .
v. Files copies of typed letters in relevant files.
vi. Receives and directs visitors.
vii. Ensures that there are all necessary facilities for proper job performance.
viii. Performs any other duties assigned by the Senior Secretary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Holder of Ordinary Level Secondary School Education Certificate, with good passes in English and Kiswahili, and Certificate in Secretarial course from recognized institution with typing speed of 50 w.p.m, shorthand of 100/120 w.p.m, office practice stage III, Secretarial Duties Stage II and Computer proficiency.
