The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles.
The ICRC's Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution's humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti. It also runs regional specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC's delegations in East Africa, the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa.
The Communication Officer Implements communication projects under supervision.
S/He assists the delegation in identifying the communication goals with regard to key target groups, participates in setting strategies and formulating action plan accordingly.

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:
- Implements communication projects;
- Contributes to define communication and prevention objectives for the area or portfolio covered;
- Contributes to implement relevant activities and to develop supporting tools;
- Supports the head of the field structure and/or the country communication manager in networking with relevant leaders and organisations in the area covered.
- Follows political, security, military and humanitarian developments, as well as other related issues
- Supervises and coaches communication assistant(s).
REQUIREMENTS:
• University degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as communications, political science, international relations, journalism.
• Fluent spoken and written English or French.
• Computer skills (proficiency in MS Office).
• Minimum 2 year’s work experience in a field relevant to communication.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in an ICRC operation an asset.
• IHL basic knowledge is an asset.
• Good knowledge of the political, social & media environment in the country/region of assignment.
