Job reports to: Senior Accountant
Job Purpose:
This position will provide accounting and administrative support services to policy research and analysis relating to the EAC Policy Research Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Accounts Assistant shall perform the following functions:
- Initiate preparation of payment vouchers as per the necessary approvals.
- Verify payment vouchers;
- Maintain ledgers;
- Update payment records;
- Post payment vouchers into the Sun System;
- Reconcile daily, weekly/monthly accounts; and
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Research Fellow from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience:
Academic and Professional Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration with specialization in Finance/Accounting from a recognized and accredited academic institution.
Work Experience
At least 5 years working experience in an accounting or financial environment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Essential knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and analytical computer programmes for social research;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task; and
- High level of integrity.
- Proficiency in English. Proficiency in French is an added advantage.
Education Qualifications and Relevant Working Experience:
Education Qualifications
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective countries. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
Relevant Work Experience
Internship, training, apprenticeship and clerkship will not be considered as relevant work experience.
Terms and Conditions of Service:
This is a non-established position tenable for an initial contract of one (1) year renewable subject to the performance and availability of funds.
