Duration: 6 months with a possible extension

BBC Media Action
BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. To achieve this, we work with civil society, local media and governments to:
- Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats, based on robust research, which inform and engage audiences around key development issues;
- Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.
BBC Media Action delivers a portfolio of media projects in Tanzania in the areas of governance.
Main duties
To provide research support on interventions to support public service broadcasting in the spirit of advancing Governance and in Tanzania
- Support the research and project teams in collecting project monitoring data
- Perform analysis on data collected including sharing findings with the research and project teams
- Support the research team in field data collection of qualitative and quantitative data
- Conduct quality control of outsourced research activities
- Review field work transcripts and provide feedback to transcribers
- Perform data entry of all fieldwork data
- Provide monthly report summaries of analysed data
- Organize for transcription and translation of FGDs and IDIs transcripts and translation of data collection tools
Required knowledge, skills and experience
- A university graduate with proven experience or interest of working in the field of research
- Fluency in English and Swahili (Spoken and Written)
- Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with all staff within the Trust and key stakeholders externally.
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation, including relevant staff working for the BBC in the UK.
- Willingness and ability to take the initiative not only in identifying problems but also in suggesting and implementing solutions.
- An eye for detail and a concern for accuracy, together with the ability to keep sight of the broad picture.
