The Tea Research Institute of Tanzania (TRIT) was established in 1996 as an autonomous organization
representing the Government of Tanzania and the tea industry. Its duty is to support the continued development of the tea industry, both large and small-scale producers, with appropriate high quality, cost effective research and technology transfer. It is funded by both public and private sector and by grant aid from willing donors.
TRIT is pleased to announce vacancies for the following positions, on behalf of Ikanga Tea Company, a subsidiary of Rift Valley holdings.
Extension Officers (4 POSTS)
QUALIFICATION
Diploma in agricultural related fields (Crop Production, Horticulture, Extension) with good working experience in commercial agriculture and related fields. A candidate with university may have an added advantage.
Basic knowledge of tea production or any related perennial crops operations.
Exposure to farming systems research' and participatory approaches and computer literacy may give an added advantage.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Hardworking with capacity to work independently with minimum supervision.
Good analytical capabilities
Persuasive and able to work with different categories of farmers.
Capable of working towards achieving a team oriented goals and objectives.
Facilitation and collaborative skills particularly with colleagues staff who may have different autonomy.
Should be under 40 years.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to Extension Service Coordinator.
Collecting and compiling pre-season information regarding demand for inputs from farmers in the mandated areas.
Supervising plucking standards in collaboration with village based extension workers,
Ensuring that the plucked Green Leaves are timely delivered at the collection points.
To supervise in collaboration with Village extension workers and transporters the weighing and correct record of the Green leaf delivered by farmers.
To assist the Extension Services coordinator with the supervision of distribution on inputs to farmers and subsequent proper usage.
Providing technical backup to extension staff and farmers in respective tea growing areas.
DURATION
Three years renewable contract.
DUTY STATION
The sought candidates will be working for Ikanga Tea Factory. They will be part of the dynamic team being assembled to manage operations in the newest and modern Ikanga Tea Processing Factory located in Lupembe Ward, Njombe Region.
